Last Chance To See The Great Murder Mystery from The Lost Estate

Purveyors of unforgettable experiences, The Lost Estate, have extended its dates until September 29th. This unique event is an ingenious retelling of Sherlock Holmes’ most famous case: The Hound of the Baskervilles. It brings together London’s top chefs, mixologists, actors and musicians in the immersive experience of the year – a thrilling feat of fine dining and world-class performance.

Those seeking an unforgettable night of celebration need look no further. From the moment they step through the doors, guests are transported to the dark, decadent world of 221B Baker Street. The attention to detail is mesmerising, with cabinets of Holmes’ experiments, relics of past cases and botanical samples lining the walls.

When we went, I couldn’t get over the huge amount of details that have gone into staging. I felt like I was sitting in Sherlock Holmes’s living room one minute then the next in the moors being chased by the Hound.

Unparalleled service is paired with mind-blowing craft cocktails from the brilliant mind of Head Bartender, Ilya Demenkov, and martini carts operating an at-seat service can be seen weaving through the Tiffany-lamp-lit tables. Wine connoisseurs can choose from two curated wine flights (available for pre-order), meticulously paired to the fine dining menu, or flag down The Lost Estate’s resident sommelier for personalised recommendations.

My friend opted for a couple of cocktails and said they were delicious whilst I went with the classic champagne.

The food is an event all on its own, a decadent three course menu takes visitors on a gastronomic journey through the finest dining halls of Victorian London. Masterminded by Head Chef, Ashley Clarke (Gordon Ramsay Group, Temper Soho, Smokestak), each course is made with high-quality, locally-sourced British ingredients and woven into the heart of the story unfolding all around you.

The meal starts with an inspired take on Sherlock Holmes’ favourite meal – ham and eggs – in the form of house-cured Gressingham duck ham, confit egg yolk bearnaise and pickled grapes. Absolutely delicious.

Next up is a spring chicken with black truffle mouse, spring pea tart, Pommes Anna and chicken scratchings. This was my favourite course as every bite paired beautifully and it wasn’t overpowering as some truffle based dishes can be.

Finally, a dessert featuring that new-fangled invention (at least in 1881), ice cream, in the form of a decadent Champagne sorbet atop a Devonshire tart with black sesame and strawberry compôte. Stunning!

There’s even a vegetarian menu if this needed which looks equally as stunning.

The ultimate night out for lovers of Sherlock Holmes, the thrilling action is punctuated by exquisite live strings, as the virtuoso musicians and skilled actors move through this gripping rendition of The Hound of the Baskervilles. Helmed by returning director Simon Pittman (Next To Normal Immersive, Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre), the performance features the much-anticipated return of the remarkable Sam Collings in the role titular of Sherlock Holmes. The spellbinding live music is courtesy of composer Steffan Rees.

I was fully immersed the whole three acts and even jumped and screamed a little one time which funnily enough had one of the actors want to make sure I was ok… this made it even more special and made me feel like I was part of the show.

A truly remarkable way to celebrate a milestone (or seriously impress a date), everything is catered for and thought out from start to finish; all guests have to do is show up. Tickets are tiered for tailored experiences – though all include the dinner and show components – with VIP. Dining guests treated to best-in-house seats in a private booth, a delicious nightcap and 221B Baker Street house canapés.

In a class of its own when it comes to London nights out, The Great Murder Mystery bears all the hallmarks of a Lost Estate production: unparalleled performance, exceptional dining and that indefinable quality that might just be magic.

We had a great time and can’t wait to see what their next production will be! So make sure you get your tickets for an unbelievable night out.
