Empire State Building to Shine Red in Celebration of Lunar New Year

On Monday, Feb. 16, the Empire State Building will shine red to celebrate Lunar New Year – Year of the Horse. 

The Consulate General of China in New York Consul General Chen Li and Deputy Director General Xu Zhentaovisited the Empire State Building to unveil a Year of the Horse Window Exhibition in the building’s iconic Fifth Avenue Lobby.

After the unveiling, the Consul General and Deputy Director General toured the Observatory Experience – which was named the #1 Top Attraction in New York City for the fourth consecutive year in Tripadvisor’s 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards: Best of the Best Things to Do – and posed for photos on the building’s 86th floor and 102nd floor Observatories.

The building’s iconic Fifth Avenue Lobby windows feature a festive installation with artistic imagery and representations of this year’s animal – the horse.Horses symbolize rapid change, energy, and freedom, focusing on independence, action, and success. The animal is depicted in gold, red, and white in a series of three scenes.
