Marvee’s Food Shop
Tucked away just a stone’s throw from the bustle of Portobello Road, Marvee’s Food Shop is a soulful, sun-soaked gem that brings a vibrant taste of the Caribbean to west London. Chef Dom Taylor’s latest project, nestled within the UNDR events space, balances laid-back charm with bold, imaginative cooking and delivers on all fronts.
From the moment you arrive, the setting strikes a perfect chord. The balcony terrace is an absolute standout: airy, welcoming, and perfect for people-watching or soaking in the warm buzz of the neighbourhood. Whether you’re popping in for lunch or settling into a long, leisurely dinner, the terrace feels like a mini escape – Caribbean vibes, London skyline.
But let’s talk about the food, because this is where Marvee’s shines. The menu is built for sharing, and with so many exciting sides and toppings on offer, we didn’t hesitate to try them all. Every dish tells a story, reimagining nostalgic Caribbean staples with playful, inventive flair.
We started with the Bammy and Festival waffles – two Caribbean breads reinvented in waffle form – served with delicious jerk chicken. It’s an inspired twist that captures tradition and creativity on one plate. The waffles were golden and crisp on the outside, with just the right chew inside, acting as the perfect vehicle for their deeply flavourful toppings.
Then came the sides: roasted pineapple & heirloom tomato chow, lime, chilli & maple plantain, and a standout spicy pumpkin rice that had us going back for seconds. Each side packed its own punch – fiery, sweet, earthy, or tangy – and complemented the main dishes without overpowering them. It’s rare to see a side menu treated with such care and complexity, and it paid off beautifully.
We also had the pleasure of trying Dom’s signature patties – ours filled with corned beef and paired with a rich oxtail gravy for dipping. There’s a cheeky authenticity to it, both comforting and elevated. And for drinks, we didn’t hesitate to sample a full range of cocktails that were on the two for one!
Marvee’s is not just a restaurant – it’s a warm, immersive tribute to Caribbean culture, rooted in memory, heritage and pure joy. With thoughtful interiors echoing the look and feel of 80’s and 90’s Caribbean takeaways, and artwork honouring the Windrush generation, it’s a space that feels alive with history and soul.
In short, if you’re after authentic Caribbean food with a creative twist, a killer outdoor terrace, and a menu designed for discovery, Marvee’s Food Shop is absolutely worth the visit.
