MOUNT GAY®’s selection of premium rums

MOUNT GAY®’s selection of premium rums make the ideal gift for a loved one this Valentine’s Day. We’ve had the original MOUNT Gay Rum, but now it’s time to try MOUNT GAY® XO or MOUNT GAY® BLACK BARREL.

MOUNT GAY® has a history spanning three centuries of processing Barbadian sugar cane, making it the oldest and continuously produced rum in the world. Through centuries of experimentation, the blending of single and double distillates has become an art form for MOUNT GAY®. This year also marks a major milestone in Mount Gay’s history, as it celebrates 25 years of MOUNT GAY® XO, originally known as MOUNT GAY® ‘Extra Old’.

Mount Gay® XO (Selfridges, £49.99)

A quarter of a century in the making, MOUNT GAY® XO is an opulent blend of the finest spirits aged for eight to 15 years. Where the original blend is floral and fruity, Extra Old blends significantly older barrels of mainly double pot distillates that have rounded the crisper notes of the spirit into a subtler balance. It exudes the finesse that only time can bring while offering a true taste of paradise – the recommended serve for XO is neat or on the rocks.

Tasting Notes

AROMAS: A perfect balance of ripe banana and toast followed by vanilla, pastry and spice

TASTE: Rich, oaky and sharp

BODY: Rounded with a smooth finish.

Mount Gay® Black Barrel (Selfridges, £36.99)

The latest from Master Blender Allen Smith, MOUNT GAY® BLACK BARREL is a small batch, handcrafted blend made of matured double pot distillates and aged column distillates. The blended rum is then matured for a second time in deeply charred Bourbon Oak barrels for a bold and spicy finish. Black Barrel is a versatile rum and can be enjoyed either neat or served as a signature Black Storm cocktail (Mount Gay® Black Barrel, ginger ale, ice and orange wedge).

Tasting Notes

AROMAS: Complex notes of spice and toasted wood, followed by fruit

TASTE: Bold spice balanced with oaky vanilla and sweet caramel

BODY: Warm medium body with long finish
