New Weekend Asado at Archie’s Herne Hill Review
“The absolute best meal I’ve ever had while reviewing with you.” That’s what my friend said as we polished off the last bite of our shared board—The Weekend Asado- and honestly, I couldn’t agree more. Archie’s Herne Hill has officially earned a spot in my top meals.
After ten years in London, it still surprises me how many gems I’ve yet to discover. Archie’s was one of them—tucked just a minute’s walk from Herne Hill Station, down a lively pedestrian street.
This vibrant Latin American dining spot is playful with bold colours, hand printed murals and curated artwork. There’s also a fully retractable shopfront that spills onto the street for an al fresco feel. Even before our reservation, the outside was packed, as us Brits made good use of the summer sun.

Available Friday to Sunday, this is Latin America’s answer to the Sunday roast—slow-cooked, flame-grilled, and served on a generous board built for sharing. Asado refers to the art of grilling meat over an open flame and is a cherished culinary tradition in Argentine culture. Each element of the Asado, from the selection of meats to the cooking techniques and accompanying sauces, is steeped in tradition and craftsmanship.
The board features
- Picanha steak – Chargrilled and packed with flavour.
- ½ Pollo a la Brasa – Peruvian-style spiced roast chicken, marinated and slow-cooked over flame for maximum depth.
- Triple Cooked Chips or Cassava Chips – Crispy, golden and made for dipping.
- Tajín Corn Ribs – flame-grilled and rubbed with lime and chilli for a zesty kick.
- Grilled seasonal greens – Lightly charred and simply seasoned.
- Trio of House Salsas – Classic chimichurri, creamy ají amarillo and a punchy rocoto red chilli.

I first fell in love with picanha in Brazil two years ago, and Archie’s version brought it all rushing back. Chargrilled, juicy, and deeply satisfying. The rocoto red chilli sauce was so good we joked with the staff they need to bottle and sell this. If they had we would have left with a crate each! It paired beautifully with the chicken and corn ribs.
We didn’t leave a single crumb. I remember looking at the empty board and thinking, “We really did that”. All of this for just £48. The portion size was spot-on—plenty for two, and we were happily full. But of course, we found room for one of Archie’s desserts.

The staff were warm, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. We loved chatting with them and hearing more about the vision behind Archie’s. We loved the laid-back hospitality paired with bold, flavour-driven cooking.
Archie’s Herne Hill Weekend Asado is available every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12pm.
