NLL Non-Alcoholic Gin Review

A new year is upon us. Often at this time of year we think about our goals for the year- maybe this year it’s about reducing your alcohol intake? Or perhaps you want a dry month? Look no further then non-alcoholic New London Light (known as NLL) gin.

Multi-award winner Salcombe Distilling Co are the masterminds behind NLL. It was developed by Master Distiller, Jason Nickels. Their aim is to deliver the best in non-alcoholic spirits without compromising taste and flavour, and we have to say they ace this.

New London Light takes its inspiration from its birthplace in South Devon. Indeed, it is named after the lighthouse that marks the entrance to the harbour in Long Island South. This lighthouse served as a beacon of light for the Salcombe Fruit Schooners trading cargoes of fruit and spices with the New World. It maintains its roots by being distilled and crafted at a waterside distillery in South Devon.

The botanicals used are also inspired by the history of exploration and trading in Salcombe. New London Light is distilled using three main botanicals: Macedonian juniper berries, ginger and habanero capsicum. Fifteen additional botanicals are also used including orange, sage, cardamom, coriander, cascarilla bark, rosemary, and lemongrass. The result is a thirst-quenching, citrus and spice flavour with a long, smooth and west finish.

As well as their flavours, the botanicals were chosen for their health benefits as they are filled with nutrients and bio active compounds that are great for the body and brain. In addition, New London Light is sugar free, allergen free, vegan friendly and low calorie.

You may like your NLL (50ml) with 150ml premium light tonic water, orange slice and safe leaf which altogether is less than 30 calories.

You may be wondering how to make a non-alcoholic gin more interesting. You can try to the ‘K N Sour’ which combines 75ml of London New Light, 12.5ml of ginger juice, 12.5ml lemon juice, 1tsp cayenne pepper, 1tsp honey in a shaker before straining over ice.  This cocktail is very flavoursome with the citrus and spice proving non-alcoholic drinks do not have to be boring.  Check out more recipes on Salcombe Gin’s website.

Salcombe gin is available from http://www.salcombegin.com/shop for £27.50. It is also available at Amazon, John Lewis and Master of Malt. The recommended retail Prince is £27.50 per 70cl.

New London Light is perfect for any occasion at anytime of the day. It’s made for everyone-those who want no alcohol, are reducing their alcohol intake, who want to be healthier or for those that just want to try something new. It’s a thumbs up from ONIN London.
