Onin.London Visits Din Tai Fung
Back in January to celebrate the Lunar New Year, I got to go try a Din Tai Fung feast at Selfridges. The restaurant was busy! Service was quick though and staff were very polite.
We started our meal with their special Lunar new year cocktails and mocktails which were the
- Golden Twist Cocktail: A luxurious twist on the Old Cuban with rum, champagne, and a hint of Laphroaig (£14.50)
- Silk Garden Mocktail: A smooth blend of Everleaf’s Forest aperitif, strawberry, and coconut (£9.50)
The special menu items offered a delicious and culturally rich way to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
Their famous xiao long bao (soup dumplings) are a must-try, with delicate, thin skins that hold a burst of flavorful broth and tender filling inside. Each bite feels like a masterpiece of texture and taste. Especially when added with their special dipping sauce.
Beyond the dumplings, the menu features a variety of delicious dishes, from perfectly cooked noodles to fresh vegetables and savory appetizers.
We enjoyed the lobster and prawn dumplings, truffle dumplings for my friend and some prawn fried rice. It was lovely lunch time experience and one I’m definitely wanting to do all over again soon.
It really wasn’t hard to see why Din Tai Fung has become an institution in London. You surely won’t leave hungry at all!
Additionally, the Canary Wharf site is now open! Located in Crossrail Place, with a 112-seats, a private dining room and show kitchen, the new location also has two new exclusive menu items:
- Mouthwatering Chicken in Spicy Sauce: An elevated version of a classic staple. Slices of tender chicken thighs, dressed with Din Tai Fungsignature spicy sauce (£11.50), are delicious on their own but even better paired with the crisp, refreshing taste of Din Tai Fung’s Craft Lager.
- Beef Tenderloin with Broccoli: Premium grass-fed angus beef fillets from Ireland sourced from local butcher, Butcher & Edmonds, assorted bell peppers, and broccoli tossed together in garlic oyster sauce in a fiery wok (£25.00). The rich, savoury notes of this dish are perfectly complemented by the smooth, nuanced flavours of our curated artisanal Akashi-Tai Sake range.
