Paper Moon Review

On a rainy Monday night, I was excited to be invited to visit Paper Moon, in The OWO Hotel. The hotel itself is really breathtaking, and the dining room was a beautiful setting for a catch up with my best friend. It was also really busy, which surprised me for a Monday night, but meant there was a great but relaxed atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and we knew we were in for a real treat.

Paper Moon has captured the sophistication and flavours of Italy with a contemporary menu of Italian classics and tastes. We were spoiled for choice with their wine list and cocktail menu, and decided to order a Lemon Shortbread and a Blood Orange Margarita; both of which were smooth but packed with fruity flavours.

When it came to the food, I was tempted by a few of their Antipasti dishes, so we shared the Fiori Di Zucchine (fried courgette flowers stuffed with buffalo mozzarella and served with anchovy sauce) and Battuto Di Manzo (beef tartare with burrata cream, sweet and sour red Tropea onion, shaved black truffle and toasted hazelnut). The beef tartare was a real standout, and the addition of the burrata cream and shaved truffle really enhanced the traditional flavours of the dish.

For mains, they had an extensive pizza menu, but I decided to order the Asparagus Risotto with 24 months aged Parmesan and my friend opted for the Rombo; Pan-seared turbot, purple potato, asparagus and saltwort purée and reduced rosemary broth. I’d love to go back to try one of their pizzas (the table next to us ordered one and it looked delicious) as well as some of the other meat and fish on offer; which I bet was super tasty too!

Despite having relatively rich and creamy dishes, I couldn’t resist a dessert. My friend had the Tiramisu, but I was quickly drawn to the Dark Chocolate Fondant; and I wasn’t disappointed!

I’d highly recommend Paper Moon and think it was the perfect place for good Italian food, whether you’re with colleagues, friends, family or loved ones. I’ll have to try and visit some of their other branches on my travels….
