Petit Pois Bistro – “We Meat on Sundays” Review.
ONIN London visited the very first “We Meat On Sundays” on Sunday the 2nd of July to celebrate all things beef. Every two months the menu you will change to highlight the best meats of the season. For the first event, Head Chef, Chris Smith has created a fabulous four course meal. This menu costs £50 and you received the four courses and an alcoholic beverage on arrival.
Chris has created this menu to reflect the ethos of the restaurant which is simple food executed to high standards, he says of the menu, “I am a great fan of meat and I wanted to showcase the fantastic cuts and choice we can get in the UK but with our French twist. I also wanted to create a menu that brings together friends and family round the table to enjoy good food and company.”
The first course was the Amuse Bouche, a Rockefellar Oyster with a meat twist. I’m not a huge fan of oysters and my friend took a little convincing to try one. We were we so glad we tried this! It was a great start to the meal and definitely a sign of the great food to come.
We then moved on to our starters, Ox Heart Croquettes and Beef Short Rib. The Ox Heart Croquettes were spicy and reminded us of shepherd’s pie. The meat on the Beef Short Ribs just fell of the bone and just melted n your mouth.
For the main Course, we had the choice of five different steaks that have been sourced from The Butchery SE23 and are served with our choice of one sauce and one side. We went with the Rump and Ribeeye Steaks with Blue Mornay and Chimichurri Sauces. We definitely recommend getting the Gratin Dauphinoise with your steaks. It was amazing.
The meal is rounded off by Chris’ signature chocolate mousse. The Chocolate mousse is served straight from the bowl at our tables and it was interesting to hear the story behind this. (Make sure you ask about it when you visit). It was the perfect way to end an enjoyable meal in a cute little French inspired bistro.
