London Museums Welcome Families This Summer as National Art Pass Launches ‘Kids Aloud’ Events

Created by Art Fund, the national charity for museums and galleries, Kids Aloud returns for its third year with a packed programme of family-friendly activities where children are encouraged to be curious, playful, and fully themselves.

The campaign comes as new research reveals two-thirds of parents (65%) feel too worried or embarrassed to take their children to museums, despite nine out of ten recognising the benefits of visiting. Parents say museum visits keep children engaged for longer than watching television, while helping improve imagination, curiosity and learning away from screens.

From hands-on workshops and immersive exhibitions to storytelling and family trails, Kids Aloud offers families affordable, screen-free activities this summer that will introduce children to new ideas, cultures, and places.

Highlights in London

• Botanical Banners family workshop at the Foundling Museum (29 July) – join artist Christina Rose Brown to create a nature-inspired banner with fun printing techniques, which you can take home and enjoy
• Prehistoric Planet: Discovering Dinosaurs at Lightroom (until 1 September) – join Damian Lewis on an unforgettable journey as you explore the extraordinary story of dinosaurs — from their dominance 66 million years ago to their lasting legacy today.
• Make a Nightingale at Keats House (30 July) – this workshop takes inspiration from the famous ‘Ode to a Nightingale’ which was written in the garden at Keats House. Keats sat under a plum tree and penned his famous lines after listening to a nightingale singing.
• August Family Day at Serpentine (23 August) – bring a picnic and spend the day on the lawn. Families are invited to explore storytelling, fairy tales and mark-making through a series of hands-on workshops drawing on the imaginative world of Cecily Brown
• Family Space at South London Gallery (29 August) – join artist Tihara Smith for an exciting family workshop exploring textiles, colour and The Caribbean.

Across the summer, families can discover craft activities, storytelling sessions and creative workshops at more than 60 museums and galleries participating in Kids Aloud nationwide.

Many events are free to attend, while National Art Pass holders can enjoy free entry at hundreds of museums, galleries and historic places across the UK, plus 50% off major exhibitions.
