The Perfect Manchester Gig Getaway: A Stay at Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre, A Verified Net Zero Hotel

There’s something magical about travelling for a gig – leaving London behind, hopping on a train, and letting the anticipation build as you head toward a night of live music. For me, that moment came when Richard Ashcroft announced his show at Co-op Live. I’d fallen in love with his presensce when seeing Oasis in Heaton Park this summer (best day of my life), so seeing him live again felt like the perfect excuse for a weekend escape. What I didn’t expect was just how much the trip would be shaped by where I stayed: the Radisson Hotel Manchester City Centre, A Verified Net Zero Hotel.

For anyone heading north from London for a concert, this hotel offers the ideal base, stylish, calming, brilliantly connected and right in the heart of the city. It transformed a gig night into a full, restorative getaway.

Arriving in Manchester already feels exciting, but the journey there set the tone thanks to Avanti West Coast. Travelling First Class from Euston made everything incredibly smooth: comfortable seats, plenty of space, open bar and endless food and snacks, fast Wi-Fi, great service and the kind of relaxing atmosphere that lets you switch into weekend mode long before you arrive. Tickets from Euston to Manchester start at £32 and can be found on www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk. By the time I pulled into Manchester Piccadilly, the buzz of the trip had truly begun.

One of the biggest selling points of the Radisson Manchester City Centre is its location. So many hotels claim to be well situated, but this one genuinely is. Set beside the River Irwell and steps away from Exchange Square, it puts Manchester’s best bits within easy reach: the Northern Quarter’s indie shops, Spinningfields’ bars, the Arndale Centre for last-minute gig gear, and easy connections to Co-op Live. You’re close to everything, but still tucked away in a calm, elegant corner of the city.

Inside, the hotel feels modern and stylish. The design is clean and contemporary, blending soft woods, warm lighting and floor-to-ceiling windows that pull in the city skyline. Sustainability sits at the core of the building’s ethos, but it’s never intrusive, instead, the whole space feels fresh, thoughtful and serene. After checking in, the calmness is immediate. For anyone arriving from hectic London life, it’s the perfect reset.

The room continued that same soothing atmosphere: airy, comfortable and beautifully quiet, with crisp linens and a city view that reminded me there was plenty to explore once I’d unwound. Good soundproofing meant that although we were gearing up for a loud gig, we’d return later to total tranquility – a detail small on paper but huge in reality.

One of the hotel’s real gems reveals itself the next morning: its indoor pool. Finding a city-centre hotel with a pool is rare, and finding one this well designed feels almost indulgent. Soft lighting, warm water and complete calm made it the ideal place to float away the post-gig haze. Whether you’re tired, wired or somewhere in the middle, a morning swim here resets you instantly. I went down before breakfast and emerged feeling like I’d been on a spa break rather than a quick concert trip.

Speaking of food, the restaurant far exceeded expectations. Hotel dining can sometimes feel like an afterthought, but here it’s a highlight. We stopped in for lunch and were pretty blown away.

My choices – gyoza, tandoori half chicken and a plum tart – were perfectly executed. The gyoza were light and crisp, the chicken tender with just the right level of spice, and the plum tart beautifully balanced. My guest chose padron peppers, fish and chips and a chocolate torte – comfort classics, each one done with care and flavour. The portions were generous and satisfying.

After lunch, the city was on our doorstep. Manchester is vibrant in a way that feels different from London, more compact, more music-driven, more intimate. And that energy only builds as you make your way to Co-op Live. Seeing Richard Ashcroft there was unforgettable: incredible sound, electric atmosphere, and the thrill of watching an artist who shaped an era perform with total confidence in a venue built for moments exactly like this. Returning later to a warm, quiet room just a short journey away made the night feel even more seamless.

What makes Radisson Manchester City Centre such a winning choice for gig-goers is how the whole experience fits together. Central, but never hectic. Stylish, but not showy. Modern, but warm. The pool and wellness space turn a concert trip into a proper weekend escape, while the restaurant makes it easy to eat well without leaving the building. Everything works together to create a feeling of ease that’s rare on quick trips away.

For Londoners, Manchester is one of the easiest, most rewarding getaways you can make, especially as Co-op Live continues to attract some of the world’s biggest acts. Travelling up for a concert and pairing it with a hotel that elevates the whole experience turns an ordinary gig night into something memorable.

Radisson Manchester City Centre is exactly that kind of hotel. Whether you’re heading north to see a bucket-list artist, planning a romantic weekend with a gig at the centre of it, or just want a change of scenery where the food, pool and room guarantee comfort, this is the place to stay.

If you’re planning your next gig getaway, Manchester is calling — and this hotel is where you’ll want to drop your bags.
