Skewd Kitchen Review

It has been a very wet and grey month and whilst I’ve been craving some winter sun, our visit to Skewd Kitchen in Cockfosters transported us to Turkey with their wonderful spread of food and homely hospitality.

Skewd Kitchen is an award-winning Turkish restaurant in North London. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were welcomed into a big family affair. Tables were filled with satisfied looking customers, enjoying a leisurely sharing brunch together.

On a Sunday breakfast and brunch time, diners can enjoy a set sharing menu for £24.99pp, with a taster of lots of traditional Anatolian dishes.

The waiter presented us with a tray full of jams, honeys, cheeses, fruit and fresh breads as well as dishes such as halloumi with tomatoes, lamb kavurma (like a cold pate), sujuk with yoghurt, pide and lots of other seasonal plates. Dishes can be enjoyed alongside a choice of eggs – fried, poached or scrambled. The Anatolian breakfast also included a pot of tea to accompany the brunch which we enjoyed with a fresh fruit juice to wash all the food down.

The service was all very friendly, and we were told that they wanted diners to feel like part of the family and community, which I thought was a really lovely sentiment.

As well as making us feel at home in the restaurant, I loved the idea of having a sharing breakfast where we could both try a bit of everything. This is an appropriate approach to get a taste of Turkey – with a real blend of flavours across all the dishes.

I intend to return for dinner one evening soon – I’d imagine it would be a great place to go with the girls on a Saturday night for a good catch up – and was very excited to hear that they’re due to be opening at The Grove, in Spring!
