Skylon’s New Pre-Theatre Dining Experience Serves the Perfect Prologue

Nestled on the top floor of London’s iconic Royal Festival Hall, Skylon is setting the stage for a pre-theatre dining experience that’s every bit as memorable as the performance to follow. With its panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the River Thames and The National Theatre, this riverside gem offers more than just a meal.

From the moment you step inside Skylon, there’s a sense of theatre in the air. The elegant dining room is flooded with natural light, creating a space that feels both sophisticated and welcoming. As the sun begins to dip behind the city skyline, golden hues reflect off the river, casting a warm glow across the room. It’s a visual overture to your evening—perfectly timed for early diners aiming to enjoy a meal before the curtain rises.

Head Chef Pavel Kobzaruk has crafted a bargain £35.00 three-course pre-theatre menu that combines classic British comfort with modern culinary flair. The menu is designed to suit a range of tastes while keeping service swift enough to ensure you’re seated well before showtime.

We started with the Split Yellow Pea Soup, a smooth and earthy opener with just the right balance of heartiness – it also had the option to add halloumi which I thought was interesting. The Cured Salmon, delicately plated and subtly seasoned, was a refreshing contrast—light yet full of flavour. Another popular starter, the Cheese Soufflé, offers a rich and indulgent bite for those looking to begin with something more decadent.

For mains, the Lemon Thyme Glazed Chicken Breast was a standout—perfectly cooked and paired with seasonal vegetables. The Skylon Fish Pie was creamy, comforting, and generously filled with fresh fish. For those seeking a true house classic, the Skylon Shepherd’s Pie is also a much-loved option, combining tradition with finesse.

To round off the meal, we couldn’t resist the Date & Molasses Sticky Toffee Pudding. Sweet, warm, and just the right level of gooey, it was the perfect encore to a well-paced and satisfying meal.

Skylon’s wine list is impressive without being overwhelming, offering a well-curated selection to match the dishes without stealing the spotlight. Whether you’re in the mood for a crisp Sauvignon Blanc or a deep, warming red, the staff are happy to help you choose the ideal pairing.

And if your evening doesn’t end when the final act concludes, Skylon’s Grand Central Bar is a stylish and relaxed place to wind down with a post-theatre tipple. With its striking décor and sweeping views, it’s an ideal setting to relive your favourite moments from the show over a cocktail or nightcap.

Skylon’s pre-theatre menu is available at lunch and from 5:00pm to 6:30pm, making it easy to plan your evening with time to spare. At £35.00 per person for three courses, it offers fantastic value for such a refined riverside dining experience. Service is friendly and efficient, allowing you to enjoy every bite without watching the clock.
