Sushi by Kanesaka
Michelin Star Dining at 45 Park Lane
Many are familiar with the culinary delights of CUT at 45 Park Lane, with a fantastic kitchen head up by Elliott Grover. Perhaps one of the more unknown venues is a beautiful, hidden and secluded Japanese restaurant, Sushi by Kanesaka.
Bringing his talents to Mayfair from Tokyo’s exclusive Ginza district, Shinji Kanesaka is a master of traditional Edomae sushi’s precise techniques – earning the restaurant its first Michelin star within seven months of opening in London.
Sushi by Kanesake is situated behind a discreet doorway, poised elegantly above Park Lane and yet a million miles from the world below, it’s here the exclusive Michelin-starred dining event transports guests to another realm, where an adventure through refinement awaits to fascinate the senses.
The décor is low key and elegant, reminiscent of Japanese restaurants. Wooden kumiko panels echo shapes found amongst the landscape in Hyde Park. A nod to tradition lives on in the hinoki ice-chests, first used by sushi chefs in the Edo period and still treasured for their ability to delicately control the temperature of the fish.
The menu is an ever evolving Chef Table style with sushi served directly to hand, in the Japanese traditional style. A menu based on the best seasonal ingredients you may find yourself enjoying delacacies such as Sushi of Yariika with Beluga Caviar or perhaps a Lobster Cream Croquette.
Situated amongst a maximum of 13 diners, this is such an exclusive experience and an insight into the art and craftsmanship of Japanese fine dining and Omakase. It’s useful to note, the Omakase experience here is priced at £420.00 per person which is certainly one of the loftier priced menus in London, but given the Mayfair location this is to be expected. Guests can also choose to upgrade with a sake pairing priced between £150.00 and £220.00.
Each dish experienced here was a work of art and it’s clear to see how this space was Michelin recognised in such quick succession. Highlight dishes for me included a Chawanmushi with Hotate and Crab which was super unique, and a dessert course of Japanese Melon. With one of these melons retailing at £60.00 minimum from a wholesaler, it’s clear to see that quality is front of mind with each dish.
Between February 4th and 7th, for just four days, Shinji Kanesaka will offer up the ultimate omakase experience. The Michelin-starred chef will personally host dinner experiences at Sushi Kanesaka: taste his exquisite culinary craftsmanship for yourself as he immerses you in his world. Book your space before it’s too late!
