Suzuki presents @ The Drive In Review
Suzuki presents @ The Drive In is the perfect way to spend your socially-distanced summer evenings. They will be popping up all over the UK throughout the summer, starting in Blackheath this week. The events are packed with different activities including performances from stand-up comedians, car-aoke, and Suzuki number plate bingo, culminating of course with a screening of a film.
When we arrived at the drive-in, we were directed to a parking spot, a safe distance from the surrounding cars, and given a QR code that we could use to order food. The Just Eat staff quickly brought out our TGI Friday’s and Ben & Jerry’s orders, which were handed to us safely on a tray. We tuned in to the FM radio frequency through the car radio, though there were also portable radios for those who needed them.
We then settled in for the warmup acts, and as the sun went down we enjoyed the classic drive-in movie ‘Grease’. We loved the retro feel of the drive-in, which was surrounded by lights and bunting, and the best part was that we could sing along at the top of our lungs!
They will be showing a range of films, from Disney classics like ‘the Lion King’ and ‘Toy Story’ to 80s blockbusters like ‘Back to the Future’ and ‘Jaws.’ With 6 shows in every city, @TheDriveIn are offering both afternoon and evening showings, perfect for families! Tickets are only £35 per car, and they are even offering 10 free car spaces at each event for NHS workers.
Overall, I was highly impressed at the effort made to make the event completely safe and distanced, and revelled in the drive-in experience. It was a perfect escape, and satisfied my cravings for the entertainment experiences we have been missing. list of screenings + destinations:
