Tequila & Mezcal Fest warm up London 2015

Viva Mexico! A dream destination high on my list. A rainy evening in Barrio East when I experience and tasted the most finest Mezcal, which I learnt is made from a plant called “piña”, and throughout Mexico, Mezcal is generally consumed straight and has a strong flavour. Although Mezcal isn’t as famous as Tequila, this exotic substance still exports to countries worldwide, including the UK. I tried several different types on this warm and friendly evening; coconut being an ultimate favourite.

Each beverage seller provided rich knowledge and serving recommendations of the special alcoholic beverage. Traditionally, Mezcal has always been produced on a small-scale basis, and is produced in small houses – called fábricas. The technique of making mezcal has been passed down through generations – from 200 years ago!

I’m glad I clued onto this intriguing information about such a dazzling beverage – before I drank every flavour I placed my eyes on! Sobriety ran away from me a bit, but the later on accompaniments of nachos with guacamole, followed by empanadas and quesadillas made by chefs at Barrio East definitely helped and pleased my taste buds. Such delicious little bits that continued to give my guest and I several tastes of Mexico.

Cocktail making also took place, where the best undercover bartender was able to claim a bottle of Mezcal if their beverage tasted the best. We were shown the ropes then given the go ahead to create our first Mexican cocktail. So much fun, lovely staff, alcohol industry professionals, good music, and by music I mean a young handsome male singer joined by a guitar wearing a sombrero and playing all of my favourite songs – of course I had to join him as he serenaded me.
