THE LONDON CABARET CLUB PRESENT THEIR BRAND NEW SHOW: ROXIE ROCKS CHICAGO 1st March to 22nd June 2024 @ The Bloomsbury Ballroom

London’s favourite immersive entertainment specialists The London Cabaret Club return with their brand-new spring spectacular ‘Roxie Rocks Chicago’: an original interpretation of the iconic musical, realigned through the eyes of Roxie Hart, as she navigates the trials and tribulations of her life and times. Roxie Rocks Chicago seeks to provide a new presentation of vaudeville’s infamous femme fatale, taken from her own perspective as she is influenced by events that occur both in and out of the Broadway production.

Act one sees a young Roxie yet to be swept up in the whirlwind of varied fortunes, being mesmerised by Velma Kelly’s rendition of ‘All That Jazz’, setting her mind on a journey of vivid dreams and fantasies. From then on, Roxie’s entire life experience is that of a cabaret, branding her delusional enough to murder Fred Casey in the spirit of showbusiness! Following a romantic solo of ‘Funny Honey’ to her long-suffering beau Amos, Roxie is thrust in to jail where Matron ‘Mama’ Morton is reimagined as a ‘Madame’ and her fellow inmates as Paris showgirls, performing a high energy dance that mimics Roxie’s thoughts and emotions.

Act two features Roxie’s introduction to lawyer Billy Flynn, conceptualised from Roxie’s thoughts of Billy as a stage director, with Roxie as the star and the jurors, media and general public as their audience, stealing Velma Kelly’s limelight in the process. After ‘A Tap Dance’ where Roxie convinces Amos to pay for Billy’s services, the ‘Ventriloquist’s Act’ projects Roxie to super stardom, followed by a new luminary blocking her spotlight, leading to the notorious faked pregnancy from the original show and culminating in Amos’ performance of ‘Mr Cellophane’, in which Roxy views him as a clown desperately craving attention.

Act three begins with a dramatic scene of Roxie witnessing a Hungarian woman become the first woman to be executed in Chicago in decades (‘Hungarian Rope Trick’) re-visualised as an intense ballet solo, followed by the trial date in which the media ‘Circus’ returns with some real ‘Razzle Dazzle’. The final scene cuts to a vaudeville theatre, where Roxie and Velma perform a new act in which they sing bittersweetly about the challenges modern life.

Taking in intricately choreographed dance routines, jaw dropping circus acts and awe-inspiring vocalists, Roxie Rocks Chicago aspires to celebrate the very best elements of the much-loved musical, adapted to showcase the diverse spread of entertainment that The London Cabaret Club has to offer.

A passion for the musical itself is abundant, with its inspiration present at all times throughout.  As such, Roxie Rocks Chicago is a production that is just as appealing to superfans as it is to curious newcomers.  Accompanied by a sumptuous dinner menu and signature cocktails created with the show in mind. The London Cabaret Club’s latest offering is destined to become their most popular show to date.
