Visiting The Mint Room in Bath
Just a short walk from the heart of Bath, The Mint Room is one of those places that really exceeds expectations. Slightly removed from the main tourist streets, it feels like a bit of a hidden gem – but one that’s clearly no secret to locals, given how busy and lively it gets at the weekends.
The atmosphere is vibrant and buzzy, with a steady flow of diners creating a warm, sociable backdrop. Despite the upscale feel, it never comes across as formal or intimidating. Instead, it strikes a really nice balance of the friendly and warm service, Indian culture is renowned for.
We started with the khash khash lamb seekh kebab and the samosa chaat, and both dishes set the tone for a lovely meal. The lamb seekh kebab was rich and full of flavour, with a subtle nuttiness from the poppy seed coating that added something a bit different. The samosa chaat, on the other hand, brought a mix of textures and flavours – crispy pastry, tangy sauces, and a gentle spice that tied everything together. It was vibrant, slightly indulgent, and a great contrast to the kebab.

For the main course, I chose the chicken jalfrezi, and it was easily a highlight. The chicken was incredibly tender, and the sauce had just the right level of spice – flavourful without being overwhelming. It felt well balanced and thoughtfully cooked, allowing the ingredients to shine rather than being masked by heat.
What really stood out alongside it was the cherry peshwari naan. This wasn’t your standard naan bread – it had a subtle sweet and sourness from the cherry that worked surprisingly well with the savoury curry. Soft, slightly crisp, and full of flavour, it added something unique to the meal and is definitely worth trying.
The drinks were just as impressive. The cocktail menu is clearly taken seriously here, and to finish, we had an espresso martini that was smooth, rich, and perfectly made. It was a great way to round off the evening.

Overall, The Mint Room delivers a dining experience that feels both polished and full of personality. The food is creative without being overcomplicated, the atmosphere is lively, and the location – just outside the centre – makes it feel like a worthwhile find. It’s absolutely worth the short walk.
