Cosy Sundays at The Pig’s Ear in Chelsea

This is the perfect winter pub

London is absolutely home of the best Sunday lunches, you simply can’t beat our pubs. This is why I absolutely love it when I find a new gem. The Pig’s Ear in Chelsea is that gem, perhaps even a diamond!

The pub is nestled away in Chelsea which is a perfect spot for weekend exploring, whether your having a nosy around one of the epic museums, or picking up some new plants at The Chelsea Gardener. However, when all the activity is said and done, this is the perfect time to visit The Pig’s Ear for an absolutely epic roast.

The pub is beautiful, buzzy and cosy, with a statement bar and stools right in the centre of the room – ideal for a pre-roast perch and cocktail. I trialled one of the Bloody Mary’s which was insane. You can either choose to eat in the bar or head upstairs to the positively beautiful and ornate dining room. We chose the latter and nestled in for an afternoon of great service and incredible food.

All dishes and ingredients are locally sourced and seasonal, and there is an impressive selection of real ales, cocktails, and fine wines, including Nutbourne wines from The Gladwin Brothers (the owner’s) very own vineyards.

To start, there’s a full range of small plates to choose from, from a Wild Yeast Baguette served with Wild Garlic Butter, a TPE Pate En Croute and a mouthwatering Mushroom Marmite Éclair served with confit egg and cornichon. I opted for a dozen Lindisfarne Oysters served with English Wasabi and Rhubarb Vinegar which was a really nice and interesting twist on a classic oyster pairing.

Onto the main event, each roast is served alongside Sussex Farm vegetables and a massive Yorkshire pudding. Options include Sussex Beef Sirloin, Tamworth Pork Belly and a “New York Dressed” whole chicken to share, served with morels and pancetta. Each option is a super generous portion and perfectly cooked. I went with the pork belly which was dressed with apple and thyme sauce and a rich, thick gravy. Don’t forget to order a side of cauliflower cheese too.

If you have room, dessert is just as delicious as the mains. When we visited there was a choice between TPE Cacao Mousse, Cherry Crumble Baked Cheesecake and Sussex Strawberries with clotted cream. Whatever your choice, there were no regrets here.

The cocktails are superb and the wine super reasonably priced for the area. For an extra bit of fun, the pub has also launched The Flying Pig Running Club, so runners can enjoy a good jog before heading to the pub. A good way to justify that dessert and a fab way to meet some new people in the city!
