Founder James Folger created The Stem in 2019, ‘after battling mental health challenges whilst working in a demanding, stressful Finance Role in London. Spending time in nature was an important sanctuary and enabled him to deal with anxiety and stress. He was inspired to start an ethically-driven business that would help other people find their own connection with nature by making plants and gardening more accessible than ever, in the most sustainable way possible’.  Founder James Folger says, “Not only do plants look great but there’s also a lot of evidence that plants and access to nature can improve our physical and mental health, including reducing stress and lifting our mood. Introducing Plants into our homes and watching them grow is one way to reap these benefits. For those of us that live in cities, with limited access to outdoor space, having houseplants is a great way to bring the green indoors. Studies have shown that interacting with plants induces physiological and psychological relaxation There is also evidence that plants at home can increase productivity, aid healing, and improve air quality.”

The delivery process is simple. Choose your preferred delivery day during the checkout process, and the plants will be hand-delivered on the day you choose. They deliver to all Greater London postcodes – there is a postcode checker on site. The Stem are currently operating a contact-free delivery service. Note – AL, CM, SL postcodes are also covered. Deliveries are free (for all delivery slots) for orders over £50, and £5 on orders below £50.

I was sent the Bonsai Fukien Tea Tree priced at £28 and The Glass Terrarium priced at £38. They were both beautiful, but the terrarium is truly a master piece. This bulb shaped terrarium is a self-sustaining green ecosystem comes fully planted, is a perfect gift and is extremely low-maintenance addition. I think I’ll be calling the Plant Doctor about my Bonsai though, as unfortunately I think I haven’t managed to take care of it as much as I should have. It probably didn’t help that my housemate forgot to water it whilst I was away.
