Theatre Royal Drury Lane Launches New Showstopping Afternoon Tea

Theatre Royal Drury Lane has unveiled its latest food and drink offering — a brand-new Showstopping Afternoon Tea that brings the magic of theatre to the timeless tradition of Afternoon Tea.

As the only theatre in the West End to serve Afternoon Tea, this experience will have something for everyone with outstanding food, drink and joyful nods to the theatre. Served in the stunning surroundings of the iconic Grand Saloon, one of the finest Regency rooms in London, this experience combines the magic of theatre with exquisite dining.

The immersive experience begins as guests are greeted by the theatre’s renowned Red Coats, known for their extraordinary VIP service over the last 30 years, who will regale guests with tales of the theatre’s magnificent restoration and its rich history. Staying true to theatrical traditions, this Showstopping Afternoon Tea is staged in two acts, and, as with any great production, there’s an encore – with plentiful tea, champagne and much more. Act One invites guests to ‘tread the boards,’ with the savoury options presented on a limited-edition serving board, crafted from the original 101-year-old stage floor removed during the 2019 building restoration. In Act Two, the sweets will be concealed beneath a resplendent red velvet curtain that is dramatically lifted at the table for the big reveal, evoking the grandeur and essence of theatre’s most iconic moments.

The Lane’s beautiful terrace bar overlooking Covent Garden will also be open for guests to soak up the drama of Afternoon Tea or have a drink and nibbles after work.

Theatre Royal Drury Lane Showstopping Afternoon Tea  is available from 17th April, and is priced from  £68 per person. Vegan and gluten free options are available. Be sure to pre-book this new offering, located in the heart of London’s iconic theatreland.

Theatre Royal Drury Lane is the oldest theatre site in continuous use in the world. It is now owned by Andrew Lloyd Webber whose £60million pound makeover was completed in 2021. The Afternoon Tea is served on bespoke fine bone china designed by Kit and Willow Kemp. Named The Mythical Characters, the collection celebrates the rich history of the theatre, with the characters  taken from illustrations of costume designs created for ballets, pantomimes, comic operas and Edwardian musical comedies. Each item is available to purchase from the theatre’s shop with prices starting at £85
