From Terminal to Touchdown, Virgin Atlantic

From terminal to touchdown, Virgin Atlantic is redefining what it means to travel in style. The airline that has long been synonymous with personality and flair is now taking its premium experience to the next level – blending cutting-edge technology, luxurious comfort, and thoughtful hospitality into one seamless journey.

By 2027, Virgin Atlantic will become the first UK airline to offer free, unlimited, streaming-quality Wi-Fi across its entire fleet, thanks to its partnership with Starlink. This isn’t just a connectivity upgrade, it’s a transformation in how passengers stay in touch, stream, and work at 38,000 feet. Whether you’re sending emails mid-flight or catching up on your favourite series, the experience will feel as smooth and reliable as it does on the ground.

But Wi-Fi is just the beginning. The airline’s ambitious cabin refurbishment plan will see its Boeing 787-9s undergo a complete redesign, inspired by the chic interiors of the A330neo. Rolling out from 2028, these updated aircraft will feature more premium seats – 44 in Upper Class and 56 in Premium – and introduce the much-loved Retreat Suite to the 787-9 for the first time. The Retreat Suite, Virgin Atlantic’s most spacious seat yet, is designed for privacy and versatility, transforming from a 6ft 7” flat bed to a mini social space where up to four guests can dine, work, or chat.

The A330neo fleet will also expand, with ten new aircraft arriving from 2026. Each will feature six Retreat Suites, 48 Upper Class, and 56 Premium seats, ensuring that the growing demand for premium travel is met with more choice and comfort. It’s a clear signal that Virgin Atlantic is doubling down on the segment it helped define – elevated, stylish travel with heart.

And it’s not just in the air where Virgin Atlantic is investing. On the ground, the airline is enhancing its iconic Clubhouses, those signature lounges that blend the warmth of a private members’ club with the buzz of a great restaurant. Following the success of the new Los Angeles Clubhouse, the London Heathrow and New York JFK lounges will receive multi-million-pound refurbishments to make them even more welcoming and contemporary. Expect elevated design, relaxed luxury, and signature touches that make pre-flight time something to savour.

In keeping with its “born to be different” ethos, Virgin Atlantic is also reshaping the digital side of travel. Its new app, launching later this year, will put “The World of Virgin Atlantic in Your Pocket.” Designed to make the entire journey simpler and more personal, it will combine everything from flight bookings to holiday planning in one seamless experience. The app will also feature real-time, emotionally intelligent voice assistance – a first for a European airline – through Virgin’s partnership with OpenAI and Tomoro.ai. Guests will be able to ask questions, plan trips, and navigate airports using natural conversation, in any language.

Loyalty, too, is getting a rethink. The Flying Club programme will soon recognise long-term customers who may not fly frequently enough to reach tier status, adding another layer of inclusivity and appreciation to Virgin’s approach. It’s a thoughtful evolution that reflects how people travel today, valuing connection and loyalty over sheer miles.

The hospitality experience is also being elevated with renewed attention to the finer details. The airline’s “Signature Ten” food and beverage offerings – from the Clubhouse Burger to the Red Head cocktail – are modern classics with a Virgin twist. Onboard, the collaboration with luxury skincare brand Votary will bring high-quality, planet-friendly wellness products to Upper Class amenity kits, adding a touch of spa-like indulgence to long-haul flights.

And in true Virgin style, innovation extends beyond the cabin. Through its exclusive partnership with Joby Aviation, Virgin Atlantic is preparing for a new era of electric air taxis. These sleek, emissions-free vehicles will connect airports to cities swiftly and sustainably, reflecting Virgin’s long-standing commitment to the future of travel.

CEO Shai Weiss sums it up best: “We exist to make our customers smile. We’re investing billions to fly the youngest fleet across the Atlantic, with free, streaming-quality Wi-Fi, more premium cabins, a full retrofit of our 787 fleet, and a new app that puts the world of Virgin Atlantic in your pocket. The best is yet to come.”

It’s an exciting promise from an airline that has always dared to do things differently. Virgin Atlantic’s next chapter is one of connection, comfort, and care — where every detail, from check-in to touchdown, feels thoughtfully designed for the modern traveller. With style, service, and a touch of that signature Virgin sparkle, the airline isn’t just keeping up with the times — it’s setting the pace for the future of premium flying.
