House Of Peroni
After spending summer on Somerset House terrace, House of Peroni will make its return to East London this October. Whilst the Somerset House transported you to the Chinotto vines of Italy, this instalment – The House of Peroni Residency – ‘Infused with Italy’ – looks to deliver a more street market vibe.
PeroniAmbra was introduced at the Somerset house development. Ambra is a zesty drink that takes the classic Nastro Azzurro and adds the flavours of the rare Italian fruit – Chinotto. The closest match to Chinotto would probably be grapefruit and it works in PeroniAmbra. The combination of Nastro Azzurro and chinotto makes for a light refreshing beverage that can be enjoyed by all.
The House of Peroni – N&C Showrooms, E1 6PG – will contain many talented individuals to infuse the senses. Master mixologist Simone Caporale and a team of bartenders from such venues as Swift, Chiltern Firehouse and the London EDITION. Combine this with fragrance specialists from Earl of East London and illustrator George Greaves. These innovative partnerships look to push the boundaries of traditional mixology, fusing scent, sight and taste to provide a unique experience for attendees. After sampling the cocktail menu, it does not disappoint. The zesty flavours give a nice citrus kick to a well-balanced concoction.
Continuing as Master of Taste is Francesco Mazzei. In honour of the zesty theme, Francesco will provide a citrus twist on the traditional Italian street food. Using local produce the menu will contain warming pasta dishes such as egg fettucine with Grana Padano and lemon and a rich duck ‘lasagnetta’ with fruit mustard. Lighter bites will include pumpkin and avocado citrus croquettes plus lemon and rosemary meatballs. This is joined by a gluten-free polenta with citrus and roasted peppers along with an array of smaller bites and daily specials.Onin London were lucky enough to sample the menu. Delicious pizza and pasta are the obvious standouts, but my favourite was the aubergine croquettes delivering a crispy outer batter with a soft inside.
The venue sounds extraordinary and I cannot wait to see the finished product. The House of Peroni will grab the attention of passers-by and invite them in with the smells of citrus. Upon entry, the smells of fruit will encapsulate the individual from the Fruttivendolo (fruit market). Guests are greeted with their first of many bars and then move onto the fragrances of Francesco’s menu, which are available for purchase at the open kitchen.
Master mixologist Simone Caporale hosts a secret bar down the myriad of alleyways. This can only be found by those that seek the concealed door leading the passageways. This private bar will host a small group of guests with a variety of PeroniAmbraChinotto-based infusions.
After exiting the Fruttivendolo, guests will be treated a beautiful Italian sea view of the Cinque Terre Riviera. A gelato cart contains Francesco Mazzei’s lovely array of sorbets and ice creams. Flavours include, grapefruit jelly with almond granite, ricotta and bergamot ice cream (amazing flavour) and chocolate with candied orange gelato.
Guests will then be invited to join the ‘Bar Citrus’ where the Italo house music plays – provided by Early Sounds Recordings (Naples). This central bar space provides PeroniNastro Azzurro and a mix of vibrant cocktails to enjoy, including
ChinottoMontemoro: Dark rum, Martini Rubino, Amaro plus grapefruit and lemon juices. Topped with PeroniAmbra, then completed with a Luxardo cherry and a spoon of bitter Chinotto jam.
Punch on the Coast: Sweet Falernum Liquer, Martini Ambrato, Grappa, lemon juice, rosemary syrup and topped with PeroniNastro Azzurro. Garnished with dry lemon, rosemary with cardamom and star anise spices.
Bergamot Tramonto: PeroniNastro Azzurro Gluten Free, Italicus, bergamot sherbet and lemon juice topped with refreshing citrus sorbet and thyme.
