Re-launch of GA KingsX at Pullman London St Pancras

Kings Cross is an area of dramatic and evolving change, becoming a foodie destination. It is therefore important to evolve with the times and this is what the team at Pullman have done with the re-design of their restaurant and bar GA, Opening up the ground floor to create an expansive open plan area that includes a bar/ lounge, restaurant (with a focal point kitchen) and a private VIP area.

Taking inspiration from different interior design styles, the decor combines vintage glamour paying homage to the hotels namesake ‘Pullman’, with velvet chairs, marble effect tables, contrasting with industrial modern featuring bronze and copper design elements. Top hats lampshades and pendants, reminiscent of timeless British eccentricity provide a whimsical feature.

A combination of lighting offers functionality and ambiance, creating different lighting moods and tones throughout the restaurant and bar lounge area.  Industrial lighting juxtaposed next to huge dandelion chandeliers and intriguing blown glass melting globe pendants adds personality. For the festive season, Pullmans have brought a twist to the traditional Christmas tree with a large decorative festive hot air balloon centrepiece reminiscent of giant bauble.

In keeping with the décor, GA offers a creative fusion twist of modern European & British food. As guests at the re-launch party, we had the opportunity to taste samples of the new menu designed by the talented Executive Chef, Craig Burrows accompanied by drinks from their cocktail menu prepared by Chief Mixologist, Ewan Harvey. These included Espresso Martinis and a refreshing gin cocktail made with Roko artisan botanical gin, from one of the ‘Fifty Tastes of Gin’ on offer.

There was a spectrum of colour and array of flavours and textures in the form of tantalizing little samples from the menu. Beautifully prepared and presented, which included vegetarian and gluten free options. There was Mini Lamb and Beef Sliders, Grilled Aubergine, Chargrilled Cauliflower, Hot Salmon Salad, Vegi Deli Bowl, Mushroom Truffle Oil Pizza and Beer Battered Fish and Chips. Our favourite dishes were the Scallops on a bed of root purée, scattered with flaked almonds and pancetta. It was a melt in the mouth dish with a delicate flavor; the black ink compote offered a slight saltiness. We followed this with Tempura Oyster served in its shell with a delicious spicy salsa, and Pan seared tender Duck Breast on a bed of sautéed veg, which was juicy and cooked to perfection. The wonderful chefs also prepared a sample of Pan-fried Sea bass, which was delicately flaky.

Dessert lovers will adore the rich decadent creamy offerings on the menu including Cheesecakes made with layers of light fluffy sponge and cream, decorated with shards of white chocolate and edible flowers. Although delicious, it lacked the obvious cheese flavour. The Provençale Panna Cotta with a lightly fragrant aromatic lavender cream was decadent as was the Modern Tiramisu encased in a chocolate shell with a distinct strong coffee cream, perfect for coffee lovers.

Sylvia the Customer Experience Manager was enthusiastic and passionate about the transformation to make GA Bar KingsX a destination in it’s own right. Throughout the launch night, we were treated to live jazz music; saxophonists backed by an up-tempo live set from the worldwide famous DJ duo, ETHER.

From Thursday – Saturday live music at GA will provide a vibrant atmosphere to dine, relax and chill, making it a perfect destination for an intimate dinner or to hang out with friends.
