Almave Non-alcoholic Spirit Review
Almave is the first super-premium non-alcoholic Blue Agave spirit, made in Mexico. The brand was created by the seven-time Formula One World Champion driver Lewis Hamilton in partnership with co-founder and master distiller of Casa Lumbre, Iván Saldaña. The brand is named “Alma”, Spanish word for “Soul”, as Hamilton wanted to honor the soul of tequila, which is Blue Agave.
Almave is crafted from the prized Blue Agave and although it shares its roots with tequila it omits the fermentation process meaning it avoids the alcohol formation. This makes it the only non-alcoholic spirit made following the same authentic ingredients and processes as tequila. Almave is handcrafted with blue agave harvested and distilled in Jalisco, Mexico. There are two expressions: Almave Ámbar Distilled Non-Alcoholic Blue Agave Spirit and Almave Blanco Distilled Non-Alcoholic Blue Agave Spirit. The former is designed for sipping and the latter for mixing.
Almave Ámbar Blue Agave Spirit Almave Ámbar has notes of roasted blue agave, vanilla and sweet caramel. The taste is of toasted wood, brown sugar, allspice and cocao. Due to this it might be a bit sweet for some, though on the other hand because of the agave it also has acidity and a little bitterness.
Almave Ámbar has an amber color, and is displayed in a bottle with an orange label. To drink Almave Ámbar, have it as you would normally a tequila. You may like it on the rocks or in place of tequila in a cocktail. It would also work well in an Old Fashioned.
Almave Blanco is the purer expression of blue agave. It balances sweetness, herbaceousness, and acidity. It is fresher, lighter and more vibrant than Almave Ámbar. There’s so some hint of spices. It is a clear expression bursting with the aromas of fresh agave. To contrast with Ámbar it is in a blue bottle with a blue label. Almave Blanco is the perfect alternative to have in a margarita, paloma, or your favorite tequila cocktail.

There’s certainly a market for premium, great-tasting options as consumers look for ways to lower their alcohol content, or find none or low alcoholic alternatives. Almave is one to add to the collection for sure.
Almave Ámbar retails for £27 and Almave Blanco at £24 on the official website. They can also be pub at bars and restaurants across the UK, through spirits distributor Mangrove.
