Gin & Cheese Night Pairing Review

On Monday the 4th of June (National Cheese Day) I attended a Gin and cheese night and I can’t speak highly enough of the event. Priced at only £10.00 guests were treated to 12 Gin and cheese pairings. This event was all thanks to Jarlsberg Cheese. It was a great night, full of laughter that allowed a selection of Aperitif, Starters, Mains and Dessert gins and cheeses. This was the perfect way to show case the utter heaven that is the pairing of gin and cheese. Move over wine, Gin is taking over.

The full list of Gins and cheeses are below so you can try these pairings at home, yourself. Though event organisers are planning on running this event once a month. Keep an eye out for future dates this summer, because it really is an amazing evening.

Not only did we learn about the different cheeses and what made them special, we had a first hand introduction to the Gins from the distillers themselves. Now I must admit I started writing notes about the Gins at the start of the night, however, as the night progressed and the gins started taking effect my notes became more ineligible. The Gins that did stand out were definitely Black Powder’s Cranberry and their Salted Caramel Gin (keep an eye out for full reviews on the site) and Keepr’s Honey Infused Gin. I was definitely a fan of these sweeter gins, though the more savoury British Polo Gin also stood out. It was a great introduction to all the gins and it left me wanting to know more about each of the brands so you’ll be sure we’ll be featuring some of them in future editions of ONIN.London.

Now for the cheeses, Jarlsberg is always a winner but my favourites of the evening were the Marmite Cheese, Applewood, the Ilcester Wensley Dale With Cranberries and the Gudbrandsdalen. Coming from Australia, we get some amazing cheeses so it was amazing to find that there is a whole world of cheesy delights that I was yet to discover.

I left the event feeling extremely full of cheese and Gin, with a goody bag of Jarlsberg Cheese. I was certainly one happy girl. I’ll be definitely signing up for the next event, because I can never have enough Gin and cheese in my life.
