Number 32, Clapham: A Buzzing Neighbourhood Favourite for All-Day Dining
Perched at the edge of Clapham Common, No. 32 The Old Town has become something of a local institution — a go-to spot for Claphamites in search of good food, a lively atmosphere, and versatile spaces to suit just about any occasion. Whether you’re grabbing Monday morning coffee, winding down with Friday evening cocktails, or digging into a weekend brunch, this buzzing bar and restaurant offers something for everyone.
The first thing you’ll notice about No. 32 is the energy. It’s a busy and vibrant place — particularly on weekends, when the buzz of brunches and Sunday lunches fills the Clapham air. Locals flock here for its reliably upbeat vibe, and with good reason. The venue strikes that rare balance between laid-back and lively, making it perfect for everything from date nights and catch-ups with friends to group gatherings and celebratory drinks.
One of its most appealing features — particularly in the warmer months — is the lovely roof terrace, a sought-after suntrap that offers views over Clapham and a slightly more relaxed vibe than the main floor. It’s the kind of place where you can easily while away an afternoon over a glass of rosé or a refreshing spritz, soaking up the sun and the steady hum of chatter from below.
We visited on a Sunday to try the roast lunch, and it did not disappoint, and the space was buzzing. The roast chicken was exceptional — succulent, well-seasoned, and served with a rich, glossy gravy that felt properly indulgent. The roast potatoes were everything you’d want them to be: golden and crispy on the outside, fluffy in the centre, and perfect for mopping up every last bit of sauce. A classic dish, done properly and with a touch of finesse.

My friend opted for the smash burger, and it was equally impressive. With a beautifully seared patty, melty cheese, and all the usual trimmings packed between a soft bun, it was hearty and satisfying. The chips that came alongside were well-seasoned and crisp.
We didn’t manage to squeeze in dessert as were happy and full with the portions, though the options were certainly tempting. Highlights included a raspberry posset, a flourless chocolate cake with berry compote, and a treacle tart served with clotted cream — all of which we’ll be returning to try. The menu has a clear focus on classic British comfort food with just enough contemporary twists to keep things interesting.
The venue often hosts live music at the weekends, adding another layer of appeal to its already lively ambience. It’s the sort of place that doesn’t just serve food and drinks — it offers a complete experience, bringing together good tunes, warm lighting, and a crowd that knows how to dance and enjoy themselves.
What also stood out was the brunch menu, which we didn’t get to try this time around, but definitely caught our eye. Hearty dishes, stacked plates, and that unmistakable buzz of weekend brunchers tucking into their eggs and Bloody Marys.
With its prime location, relaxed yet lively setting, and crowd-pleasing menu, No. 32 The Old Town lives up to its reputation as a much-loved Clapham hangout. Whether you’re after a sun-drenched terrace lunch, a cosy Sunday roast, or drinks accompanied by live music, this all-day neighbourhood spot ticks all the boxes. We’ll certainly be back.
