Quilon Review
I visited Taj 51 Buckingham Gate, Suites and Residences a few months ago so jumped at the chance when we were invited to try Indian restaurant, Quilon. Quilon offers a contemporary expression of South-West coastal Indian cuisine — light, vibrant, and layered with complexity.
Designed with freshly ground spices and seasonal ingredients at its core, each dish reflects the cultural richness of the region while embracing modern technique. Paired with a curated list of wines and craft beers, Quilon invites you to experience the coast of India in the heart of London.
Upon arrival, the staff were welcoming and we were given the option whether to sit next to each other on a round table or opposite once another; which I loved!
After ordering our drinks (lychee based cocktail for me and an orange based mocktail for him), we were given very moreish mini poppadoms with chutneys which were packed full of flavour.
The menu all sounded amazingly tempting, so I was relieved when the waiter talked us through some of their signature meat and seafood dishes and gave us recommendations on what paired well together. For starters, we opted for the Lentil Crusted Scallops (for him) and Southern S-a-a-t (crispy lotus dumplings, aromatic peas, spiced millet ribbons, tomato, onion, chutneys and lotus chips) for me. The food all had a bit of a kick to it, but I think my mouth calmed down before the main courses arrived!
Whilst the starters were delicious, the mains were the absolute stars of the show. We decided to share the Baked Black Cod with tamarind, jaggery and fenugreek followed by the Lamb Shank Varutha Curry and Malabar Lamb Biryani and I omg they were all amazing. Both the fish and lamb melted in your mouth and the flavours were unbelievable. They were both cooked perfectly and I would happily go back and eat them again and again!
Even our desserts were delicious! I’m usually full before we eat dessert, but couldn’t resist trying the Kumquat and Milk Chocolate Ginger Mousse and the Rose Pistcahe; a milk chocolate pistachio mousse with raspberries. Both were presented beautifully and I happily licked my plate clean – perfectly accompanied with a Masala Chai.
Even on the way home from dinner I was recommending Quilon to family and friends and I will definitely be going back to visit. The food was delicious and as well as a mouthwatering A La Carte menu, they also offer tasting menus, which would be perfect for an occasion with friends or family, or a work gathering.
