Ask Italian black and white movie nights Review

What better way to spend a rainy evening in London than watching movies and eating scrumptious Italian food? That’s exactly what OnIn.London did on Tuesday 6th November at restaurant chain ASK Italian who launched their Black and White Movie Nights.

These food and cinema nights were formed to celebrate the best of Italian themed cinema and have launched alongside the new Autumn menu. Diners will enjoy a three course meal while watching the famed classic Roman Holiday, starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck. Set in Rome in 1953, it was filmed entirely on location and filmed in black and white.

Of course the three course meal is also black and white themed.  For entree we had Burrata Caprese, a vegetarian dish. For those who are unaware Burrata is creamier and more indulgent than mozzarella. Served with Santos tomatoes, rocket and basil it was rather plain.

For the main we indulged in the new Autumn menu item: slow cooked Beef and Chianti Ravioli. A twist on the classic, it uses activated charcoal. Every ravioli piece had one side of charcoal pasta and the other of normal pasta, and it was served with half of the pasta laid charcoal side up, to again fit the black and white theme. A lovely red wine sauce added more flavour. Unfortunately I was halfway through my dish before the Parmesan cheese arrived which just added that extra something to the dish. For the vegetarians there is an alternative pasta dish available.

Desert was by far most people’s favourite dish. Continuing with the black and white theme, it was a smooth creamy white chocolate and almond mousse. Served on crushed pistachio nuts and strawberries with a cascading orange sauce, it was absolutely delicious.

The secret downstairs dining room has been transformed into a retro-style theatre with themed Italian touches. There were seven round tables with chairs with cushions to accommodate up to 14 guests. The walls were decorated with black and white photographs, leaves and lights to create a cafe feel. Most of us will be dreaming of a trip to Rome, and Ask Italian have preempted this by providing some tips for secret spots in Rome to enjoy.

The Black and White Movie Nights are perfect for foodies and film lovers alike and will have you wishing to escape the cold of England for the warmer Italian climate.
