Bar + Block Steakhouse Aldgate Review

Attached to a Premier Inn in Aldgate, Alie Street, sits Bar + Block a new and untested steakhouse offering a solid range of mouth-watering steaks, an extensive wine list and an imaginative list of cocktails.

The classy industrial décor, inviting atmosphere and indulgent food undoubtedly outshines that of the standard steakhouse. Promptly shown to our seat, we sat in a booth, lit by a rustic hanging light and picked at beef
dripping popcorn whilst we searched the menu. This was a tease for the taste buds for what was to come.

Afforded a three course dinner, we were spoilt for choice with extensive variety in all areas. Whilst pleasing, did cause a complicated process for an indecisive couple. We decided on a bottle of Merlot to accompany our food and enjoyed the relaxed wait; no Wednesday busy night madness.

For starters we chose the Asian Crispy Beef “Crispy pulled beef tossed in hoisin, cucumber, spring onion, chilli and coriander” and the Salt & Pepper Squid “Crispy salt and pepper squid mixed with chilli and garlic, served with lemon & garlic mayo and a wedge of lemon”. Both were packed with flavour, were sizeable portions and easy on the eye. When finished we definitely needed a time out before delving into the main attraction.

**Good news for steak lovers** A feeling of happiness subconsciously grabbed hold of us as the waiter explained that we could order our steaks however big or heavy our appetite demanded. We ordered our normal 12oz Ribeyes  and these did not disappoint.

Hugely satisfied we turned our attention to the closing course. Conflicted between our sweet craving and our full stomachs we were won over by the mother of all desserts Chocolate Churros Sundae! “Churros coated in cinnamon sugar, served with vanilla ice cream, salted caramel ice cream, brownie chunks, cream and chocolate toffee sauce” AND the Sticky
Toffee Pudding served with salted caramel ice cream”.

Un-melted ice cream, fluffy sponge and cheesy smiles all round. No speck was left uneaten. As a couple of food enthusiasts, the evening left us highly content and in agreement that we would return to Bar + Block to eat again.
