Bayleaf Review
Finding a good local Indian restaurant is essential, and our local just happens to be a great place to treat yourself – whether it’s for a birthday, or for a night out with family or friends.
Bayleaf is located on Whetstone High Street with both a takeaway and sit-down restaurant.
We visited the sit-down restaurant on a Sunday evening and from the moment we sat down, the service was friendly and attentive (without being overbearing) and the staff couldn’t do enough for us.
Every good Indian meal out has to start with papadams, and ours were served with six really fresh homemade chutneys to share. We also shared crisp Onion Bhajis and the South Indian Spiced Lamb; strips of lamb stir fried in onion, coconut, black pepper and curry leaves and served on a bed of Pink Uttapam bread. Both were tasty and were plated nicely – I definitely eat with my eyes first…
For mains, we ordered a selection of dishes between us: Tandoori Garlic Chicken, Oh! My Bayleaf Curry (chicken, tomato, ground cashew nuts, almond, honey, coconut and cream), Lamb Biryani and Dumba Changezy (lamb shank coated in spicy sauce and served on a bed of chickpea rice). All of the dishes we tried were full of flavour and the meat was succulent and melted in your mouth. The food was perfectly spiced, and we all cleared our plates!
I don’t think I’ve ever managed to eat a dessert after an Indian meal, but we all ordered a hot drink and shared a lemon sorbet, which was a refreshing way to end the meal.
With such delicious food and great service, I wouldn’t hesitate to return to Bayleaf, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special Indian meal with family or friends!
