Benugo Bar & Restaurant Review

Tucked inside the BFI among the melee of cinema screens lies the modern airy bar and restaurant Benugo. Benugo have taken London by storm with assortment spread across the whole city. The guys dabble in everything from a cafe residence in the Natural Museum and lunching spot on Curzon Street in Mayfair to a burger bar just set back from the Southbank and the modern restaurant inside the BFI, and that’s just naming a few of their ventures!

However we visited the BFI last week to sample their Sunday brunch menu. The restaurant is split into an airy dining area and a sultrier bar. We sat by the large outward facing window, which let in beautiful natural light until dusk whereby the candles were brought out and adorned the tables.

We just missed their evening menu, as we arrived a little early at 4pm which was a shame as it looked amazing! Pork belly confit accompanied by seared scallops was the option that had me drooling! However their brunch menu looked rather scrummy too.

I opted for the chorizo hash, while my friend went old school with the eggs benedict. The hash was a mix of crushed potatoes, chorizo, cheese, spinach and couple of eggs cracked on the top. All of which was cooked a served in a cute little pan.

It was great to find so much chorizo in there! I have to admit that is my fave bit of hash. However it did lack a little depth of flavour, and I added quite a lot of pepper to jazz up the taste.

My chum really enjoyed their benadict, and thoroughly praised the sourdough muffin. A good strong brunch choice.

We made sure to leave room for dessert! A Sunday treat. We chose polar opposites in a chocolate fondant pudding and autumnal fruits cheesecake.

These were awesome, and made us bummed we hadn’t tried the main dinner menu! The chocolate pudding was crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside, perfecto. The super creamy cheesecake has a intensely rich flavour. The buttery biscuit base added great crunch and seasonal fruits a complimentary zing. It created a party in our mouths!

We rounded off our dinner by sharing a Blueberry Caipirinha cocktail. Wowzers a potent concoction! The Abelha organic cachaca is sweetened with blueberry jam, quite unconventional and awesome!

Overall Benugo was a lovely way to spend our Sunday afternoon, and if the food is anything to go by I would pay any of their branches a visit. Check out their menu here.
