BERTO opens this month

New Pasta Concept from the team behind Zia Lucia 

On the bustling Holloway Road situated conveniently next door to their existing flagship restaurant Zia Lucia, sees the recent opening of the new concept restaurant Berto. A small but light and airy 45-seat restaurant combining natural and industrial decor (picture light wooden furniture with hanging industrial lighting and a central skylight with hanging foliage).  

Berto will focus on what Zia Lucia does best, authenticity and quality at an affordable price, with all items under £13. The focus continues with freshly made specialty dough, but instead of pizza, Berto’s menu features a selection of fresh pasta doughs made from traditional, wholemeal and gluten free flours.  The menu includes 11 mouthwatering ‘Pastificio’ pasta dishes served with classic and inventive sauces made from the finest fresh ingredients. Alongside the familiar Lasagne, Ravioli and Gnocchi you will also be introduced to pastas such as Fetuccine, Papparadelle, Pici, Matagliati and Strozzapeti.

If you don’t know your ‘Pici’ from your ‘Gnocchi’, the quirky menu not only helps you brush up on your basic Italian, but also gives you a brief education on each pasta shape. Also, as the restaurant is centered around a pasta bar, you’ll be able to immerse yourself into the craftsmanship that goes into fresh pasta making while you wait in anticipation for your dish. You’ll never look at pasta the same again!

The menu also includes a small but delicious selection of anti pastis (cured meat, vegetarian and fresh cheese options available) and organic bread from Dalston based Dusty Knuckle Bakery to mop up all that delicious sauce.

The drinks menu includes a broad selection of Italian wines stretching from Sicily to Piedmont, alongside beers from North London brewers, Hammerton Brewery. We at On In London loves hearing about local businesses supporting one another. 

For cocktail lovers, there are six different Italian liquor based cocktails to choose from (Aperol, Negroni, Processco and Campari…Delish!). Grab some friends and head down to Berto for an authentic Italian dining experience and enjoy an aperitivo or two…well as they say ‘When in Rome’
