Black Powder Ginsperience Review

Having met the creators behind Black Powder Gin at a Gin and cheese event, and reviewing their Cranberry and Salted Caramel gins (http://bit.ly/2MCXtbM), we were already great fans of Black Powder Gin. So this October, we were only too happy to travel to Lancashire to attend their ginsperience. It certainly increased my love, respect and admiration for this Gin and the people behind it.

First off what was the experience? Well it was an evening of Gin, fine dining, Lancashire hospitality and great music from Scott ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson. For £48, guests were treated to a Black Powder Gin branded balloon glass to take home with you, 4 large G&Ts or gin cocktails (there was over 30 gins to choose from), a delicious 2 course meal, the opportunity to sample our other concoctions such as whiskeys, fortified wines, gin liqueurs, a £5 voucher to redeem on a purchase of any of our 70cl gins, an opportunity to meet the team behind Black Powder Gin and live music from talented local resident musician, Scott ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson.

Food was catered by Twelveand was incredible. Full of flavour and the perfect accompaniment to the fantastic G&T’s we were drinking all night.

Now I’ve been to a lot of Gin distilleries, however, this event had to be one of the most fun ways of a company showcasing their story, history and products. It’s amazing to think that the professionalism of Black Powder’s Team and selection of Gins only began 18 months ago. This all occurred after Tony decided that his dairy farmer father-in-law’s home-made Christmas Damson and Sloe Gin was good enough to leave a career of teaching and start a business. From there Black Powder Gin has gone from strength to strength. A little while ago we shared with you news about Black Powder Gin’s award winning Sidelock London Dry & Flintlock Navy Strength Gin. Well this weekend we finally got to try them for ourselves. Both gins were just the perfect gins and it’s no surprise that they won a gold award for the Navy Strength and a silver for the London Dry from the International Wine and Spirits Competition. Now those were gins I need to have, so of course I purchased both of them for my collection at home.

The evening also allowed us to sample some of Black Powder’s Gin extensive collection of fruit gins and liquors. I’ve been to gin distilleries before where the company tries to pop out as many gimmicky flavours as they can, this certainly isn’t the case here. Each gin has been painstakingly created to perfection. Trust us when you try them for yourself at future Ginsperience events. Currently the Christmas events are sold out, so you’ll have to wait til next year to get your tickets. But until then, Black Powder Gin’s entire range can be purchased online.
