Bowie Songs Live comes together at Lost Rivers
It is a well-known and sad fact that London has lost large numbers of live music venues in recent years. However the picture is not all bleak. Just seconds from the famous Elephant & Castle roundabout a new live music venue has risen like a phoenix from the ashes. Described as very arty and underground, Lost Rivers Elephant is constructed from numerous old shipping containers.
After a triumphant live launch at St. Giles last month, Bowie Songs Live returns this Friday, 14th July, to London’s newest music venue, Lost Rivers at the Elephant.
Taken from an online review of the recent live launch of Bowie Songs One album Jasmine Storm says: “Ray Burmiston is Superman. By day he is a photographer who has photographed almost everyone who is anyone (including Bowie), but by night he becomes the most awesome singer with a vulnerability to his voice that hits you in the heart. Ray delivered Always Crashing In The Same Car and his performance is something else. He is full of charisma and has a presence on stage that draws you to him like a drug to keep you wanting more.” Ray Burmiston will be performing an extended set of acoustic Bowie and there will also be sets from other vocalists from the Bowie Songs One album.
The album – and live shows – features a range of Bowie songs, from “Stay” to “Oh! You Pretty Things” and “Drive-in Saturday”, all stripped down to their emotional core, arranged for piano and voice only. The range of incredible vocalists on the album includes David McAlmont, Ian Shaw, Marcella Puppini, Katherine Ellis, Billie Ray Martin, Funmilayo, Ray Burmiston, Des de Moor and Linda Hergarten. Producer and pianist Clifford Slapper worked closely with David Bowie, playing piano for his last ever television appearance in the world.
