Bowls Review

BOWLS Soho opened on the 3rd December 2018. We got to visit last year after it had only been open for a short time. The restaurant was designed to be ‘all about those comforting dishes that just don’t quite work on plates. Dishes to hold, to pick from and pass around, packed with layered flavours and unique ingredient combinations. Dishes that bring everyone together and evoke – or create – memories’.

The menu consists of Caribbean, South America and South East Asia foods. Perfect for when you’re with a group of friends and just can’t decide what food you’re in the mood for. There’s something here that will keep everyone happy.

We started with sharing bowls of BBQ Jerk Chicken Wings, Salt Fish Callaloo, Seared Scallops, Courgette Tempura Fries, Fried Corn and Grilled Plantain.  A definite mix of all of the cuisines on offer at Bowls. They really were very delicious and who knew Fried Corn tasted amazing with avocado on top.

In terms of mains, my friend went for the Jamaican Curry Goat and I chose the Seafood Laksa. My bowl was phenomenal and I pretty much licked the bowl clean. My friend who eats a lot of Jamaican and Caribbean food, found the Curry Goat not fully up to her standards. She had nothing bad to say about it, she just thought it was missing something.

We were incredibly full after our meal though, so didn’t end up having dessert but we will next time we visit for sure.

The cocktails we washed our meals down with were especially delightful and didn’t last long in our glasses. I can definitely recommend the ‘Paloma de Damiana’– Espolon Tequila Blanco, Lime Juice, Damiana Botanical Tea. It was refreshing a unique take on the classic Paloma cocktail.

The resturant was designed by CantorMasters and is super cute. It has chef’s bar with snug window seating, bespoke blown glass pendants and bowl inspired wall lights. Striking street art, graffiti and an incredible collection of quirky bowls from around the world.
