Checking into Hart Shoreditch

The classy and stylish East London hotel

Born in the unfortunate year of 2020, you may well have missed the fan fair around the opening of this great hotel, likely because you couldn’t actually stay there at times. I’m here to tell you Hart Shoreditch is well worth a second and third fan fare, and a lovely East London stay.

Nestled on the busy main road from Old Street to Shoreditch, you’ll find Hart Shoreditch. Designed and created as part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, a series of unique hotels with heightened design, this spot is one not to be missed or overshadowed by its popular neighbours.

On entry, you’re welcomed by warming décor with pops of colour. Each element of the hotel has a striking design and colourway. The open plan lobby gives a glimpse of the hotel bar – very smart design – leaving you craving an expertly mixed cocktail on arrival!

Around the corner is the front desk. We were welcomed with an ice bucket filled to the brim with canned wines and cocktails, alongside non-alcoholic options, that you could help yourself to and take up to your room – a really nice and unique touch.

Check in was smooth and swift and we were soon soaring up to our digs. The hotel itself is inspired by East London’s past, the hotel’s unique design a celebration of Shoreditch and its heritage as a centre for craftspeople and makers. It boasts 126 elegant rooms, two meeting rooms, a communal workspace, a Hotel Lounge, gym and a private dining area for up to 12.

On entry to our room, we were greeted with a charming signature scent, plush furnishings and a separate living space and desk area, ideal for work-from-hotel-er’s. There were two enormous widescreen TVs in the room, pretty much side by side – extravagant, but fancy all the same.

We settled in to enjoy a bottle of prosecco left as a welcome amenity, before diving into the comfortable sheets, to experience the world’s best night’s sleep. The TV hosts all the SMART capabilities including Netflix and Disney +, which believe it or not, doesn’t come as standard these days in hotels. You can tell the hotel is new with its fresh finish, slick team and good tech.

Sadly, we were a little too early to experience the restaurant as it was undergoing a concept change. However, this is now complete, and Hart has welcomed UBA to the fold!

UBA is a decadent new dining spot. Visitors to the hotel will be taken on a gastronomic journey through the bustling streets and aromatic alleys of Asia’s most vibrant cities with a menu that offers sharing plates, served-up against a backdrop of ornate interiors and a vibrant soundtrack.

Helmed by globetrotting Chef Paul Greening, this brand-new restaurant is part of East London’s stylish Hart Shoreditch and will offer guests a distinct gourmet experience that reflects the vibrance of the hotel itself, and its celebration of culture.

Signature must-tries will include stuffed boneless chicken wings with coriander, lime, and ginger miso dipping; spicy salmon tartare served on an ice plate with Japanese herbs, salmon roe and nori rice crackers. Larger plates come from the robata and teppanyaki with dishes such as yuzu shisho marinade lamb cutlets with nashi pear tomato miso and kimchi; yakiniku beef ribeye with sweet potato nest, onion miso and wasabi furikake; and crispy salmon belly with gochujang brown butter ponzu.

Whilst we didn’t try the food during our stay, we were fortunate enough to experience the talents of the mixology team who put theatre and innovation at the forefront of the concept. We had a deliciously smoky Old Fashioned that was intense and delightful. The new drinks list will offer a selection of much-loved favourites with a twist, as well as some exceptional signatures unique to UBA.

An ideal spot to explore all the sights that Shoreditch has to offer – from regular fashion sample sales, Brick Lane and world-renowned street art – Hart Shoreditch is the perfect spot to make your base.
