Browns Brasserie Review
Browns Brasserie in Old Jewry Lane in Bank, is exactly what you would expect of a restaurant in the city. Grand, dark woods, sophisticated lighting and rather elegant. We had a lovely warm welcome as we entered, where we were promptly seated by the window. Shortly after we sat down, freshly made bread and olives were brought to the table, just out of the oven, it was warm, flavoursome and pretty incredible, so much so if I wasn’t ordering a starter, I would have asked for seconds.
For starters we went for the British mussels with white wine sauce, garlic, parsley with warm toasted bread on the side. The mussels were cooked tenderly and you could taste the freshness of the mussels, this dish being a new addiction to the menu, I would defiantly give it the thumbs up.
For the mains, I went for the Roasted Lamb Rump, which came with potato gratin, crushed minted peas and red wine sauce, the lamb was good well, and the potato gratin complemented it nicely.
My guest had the Fish pie, which came with salmon, prawns, scallops and cheese, it was a very generous size, which was a nice surprise for her, the dish was bursting with flavour, from all the ingredients. For the sides we went for the buttered green beans and baby kale, quinoa and beetroot salad.
The mains were certainly filling, but we both couldn’t resist deserts, I choose the sticky toffee pudding with ginger ice cream, I liked the fact, that ginger was replacing the standard Vanilla ice cream, so that was a nice touch and the sticky toffee pudding was baked to perfection, I would definitely recommend this desert. My guest had the Banoffe pie and caramelised banana, perfect for those with a sweet tooth and she enjoyed the nice surprise of the chocolate popping candy. Bringing back childhood memories for us both.
Browns Brasserie is a great place to dine with friends or with a special one in the evenings. The staff are very friendly, and it had a very nice and welcoming atmosphere.
