The Cadogan Afternoon Tea Review

“I can’t stand people who do not take food seriously.” This quote by Oscar Wilde is appropriate to ponder as we enjoyed an Adam Handling afternoon tea atThe Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel.

We had the traditional afternoon tea, but vegan and gluten free options are also available. The Cadogan’s aim is to combine the history and importance of High Tea with the luxury of afternoon tea, and that’s exactly what you get. The service was amazing and the staff were so helpful.

The afternoon tea comprises a number of sandwiches including coronation chicken,  smoked salmon, honey-glazed ham and smoked applewood on a variety of breads. The egg and cress on brioche bun was our favourite sandwich. In this case, the saying less is more is true as the simple yet subtle flavours hit the perfect note.

A standout was the chicken liver parfait with toasted brioche. My friend loved this so much she even had seconds. The fruit and plain scones, baked fresh in the in-house bakery daily, were light and airy.

The sweet dishes have been inspired by Sir Henry Sloane, the namesake of Sloane Street on which The Cadogan’s stands. Being a physician, scientist and collector, Sloane made many voyages across the globe, discovering and collecting fauna, flora, ingredients and flavours. The menu at The Cadogan’s by Adam Handling has incorporated international ingredients alongside quintessential British fare. I have a sweet tooth and enjoyed all the decadent deserts.

Of course no afternoon tea is complete without a dazzling array of aromatic black, white, green, oolong, rooibos and tisane teas. My friend enjoyed the classic Earl grey. This was balanced and full bodied with a citrus finish. I had the Oriental Oolong, which is the most highly-prized tea in the Oolong Collection. It’s sweet, smooth and fruity. Whatever your tea preference, your sure to find something here as you can try different teas.

The Cadagon’s serves afternoon tea from 12pm-6pm. The traditional afternoon is priced at £55 per person with additional costs for a glass of champagne. Bottomless afternoon tea starts from an additional £70pp.

For history lovers, The Cadogan hotel on Sloane Street was where Oscar Wilde was arrested I895. Have a wonder around the lobby and bar area where you can see books that have been cast in bronze and specially commissioned peacock made from 25,000 Swarovski crystals!

Overall we loved our luxurious afternoon tea in this elegant hotel. We’d recommend booking this relaxing experience.
