Cafe Pacifico Review

A couple of weeks ago we visited the first mexican restuarant in London, Cafe Pacifico. They were awarded the Best Margarita in London 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 and were also winners Best Mai Tai Cocktail UK 2018 – Chairmans Reserve Rum National Competition, so we knew we’d have great food and even better drinks. We were greeted by Carlos, the owner who proudly helped us chose the best drinks to have. Of course we had to start with a margarita, it’d be wrong of us not too!

As we visited on a Saturday, the restaurant was busy and buzzing, but the wait staff have their service down to fine art. No one waited long for their food and drinks, and they instantly appeared when guests wanted to order more.

My friend and I chose to share the Anjitos Platter which consisted of chicken quesadilas, tlacoyos with chicken tinga, beef empanadas, chipolte char grilled prawns, guacamole, tomatillo salsa and crema mexican. This dish was perfect because at only £14.50, it allowed us to have a large selection of starters.

For mains, I couldn’t chose what I wanted either as everything sounded amazing. Luckily Cafe Pacifico offer the Degustation Del Pacifico, which is a combination of three of the best mains in the resturant. One Chicken Enchilada, one ground beef tosada with fresh lettuce and tomatoes and one pulled beef taco. It was also served with mexican rice and black beans.  I loved this as I can never choose what I want to eat and have always said if I had a restaurant, I would offer ‘a best of mains platter’.

My friend chose the tacos al pastor, grilled and sliced pork marinated with dried chilli and a blend of spiced, grilled pineapple and grilled onions. This was served with corn tortillas, fresh tomatillo and grilled tomato chipolte salsa and chopped coriander. She found the pork a little dry, though said the grilled pineapple was delicious and genius.

The portion sizes at Cafe Pacifico are huge, so make sure you bring your appetite. I couldn’t even fit in dessert, but my friend managed to squeeze in the Mexican Deep Fried Ice-cream. I did have a sample and it was super creamy, probably the best vanilla ice-cream, we’ve ever tried.

We had a great time visiting Cafe Pacifio and will certainly be back. If you’re looking for something to do this day of the dead, there’s a celebration on the 2nd November. Details below.
