Chiara’s Wine Tour In Venice Is A Must Do Activity
If you’re looking to immerse yourself in the beauty of Italy’s premier wine region, look no further than Chiara’s exclusive wine tour in the Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG. From the moment you book with Chiara, you can expect an unforgettable, intimate journey through breathtaking landscapes and celebrated wineries. We know we did!
Chiara picked us up promptly at 9:30 AM from Venice’s Piazzale Roma. From the moment we stepped foot in the car, we felt at ease and excited for the day ahead. We were extremely lucky on the day that the weather was perfect for a cold November day and we joked that it was Chiara’s magic and personal touch that had the sun shining.
Chiara’s deep local knowledge really does make this experience truly one-of-a-kind. We’ve done winer tours before and I can honestly say I’ve never had such a wonderful experience as the day we spent with Chiara.
When booking you know you’ll visit three top-tier wineries, each offering something unique: from guided cellar tours to exquisite wine tastings paired with local delicacies. The tour also offers convenient pickup options, whether you’re staying in the Conegliano Valdobbiadene area or in Venice, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free start to your day. So it really is a great way to explore Italy and learn more about one of the UK’s most popular drinks.
The scenic drive along the Prosecco Road alone is worth the trip, but it’s the opportunity to learn about the wine making process and savor Prosecco in its most authentic settings that make this tour truly special. Each winery visit is thoughtfully curated to showcase the region’s rich heritage, with stunning views and expert insights at every stop. Chiara has been doing this since 2011 and she has built great relationships with the wineries so each guest is truly treated like family.
Chiara knows her stuff and it was very interesting learning about all about Prosecco and the difference between DOC and DOCG. Prosecco DOC means the grapes were grown on flat ground while DOCG means the grapes were grown in the hills.
Prosecco is also created using Glera Grapes and while it was a lot of information to take in… if we remember correctly the grapes are pressed, yielding a maximum of 70 liters of wine per 100 kg of grapes, a process similar to that used in Champagne production. A still base wine is then created. Afterward, the base wine is transferred into a sealed, steel pressurized tank for a second fermentation. During this stage, yeast consumes the added sugar, producing carbon dioxide, which gives the wine its sparkling quality.
Another fun fact we learnt on the day is that Prosecco – should be drank fresh and young, while champagne has an aged fermentation process so can be kept longer. So if you buy Prosecco from the shops, you really only have 12 months to drink it.
After a few beautiful scenic spots along the Prosecco Road we stopped at our first winery, La Svolta where we met Francesca. La Svolta is a family run winery and Francesca spoke fondly about how each other family members live on the property and the different jobs they do to ensure the best Prosecco production each year. https://www.proseccolasvolta.it/
Here we experienced a special private tour of the vineyard and a visit to the cellar where we learnt more about the vinification process. After this, we throughly enjoyed a guided tasting session featuring expertly paired food for each glass, highlighting the unique characteristics of Prosecco. Both the food and Prosecco was phenomenal.
Our Second Winery was Varaschin https://www.varaschin.com/ [email protected] where we were greeted warmly by Manuel. Manuel’s family winery is beautiful and rustic with a great deal of charm, that it’s no wonder it’s the perfect spot for the delightful tasting paired with a light lunch or picnic featuring local delicacies like cheese, salami, prosciutto, and freshly baked bread.
We even got to try some of Manuel’s Grappa, which he linked to fond memories of his grandfather and Varaschin’s own brand of Gin.
Our Third Winery and final stop was at Gliallori with Matilde. https://gliallori.eu/ i[email protected]. Matilde gave us a tour of her family run winery and then we enjoyed a beautiful wine tasting paired with local cheeses and meats. I don’t know how Matilde and her family get any work done here as the scenery was that beautiful, I’d be stopping all day just to stare and take pictures.
Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or simply looking to enjoy a day in one of Italy’s most enchanting regions, Chiara’s wine tour offers the perfect combination of education, relaxation, and indulgence. We can’t thank Chiara enough for looking after us and ensuring that our trip was so special.
