England Goalie David James ran a Skills Session for Youngsters at Elefit, Castle Square

Elephant and Castle’s Castle Square came alive on Saturday 19th July for Elefit 2025, a vibrant and inclusive day of health and wellbeing that brought together residents, visitors, and fitness enthusiasts for a morning of energising activity and community spirit.

Running from 10am to 1pm, the event transformed the iconic hub into a pop-up playground for fitness, wellness and fun, offering something for everyone – from gym-goers to complete beginners. In partnership with former England goalkeeper David James, the day was a celebration of movement, inclusivity and cultural vibrancy.

David James led a popular football skills session for children, sharing tips and encouragement from his celebrated career at clubs including Liverpool and Manchester City. Speaking about the event, he said, “Elefit is a one-of-a-kind wellbeing and fitness event that I feel very fortunate to be a part of. I’m passionate about encouraging people from all backgrounds to get into fitness and live healthier lives.”

Fitness highlights included dynamic Pilates with Tempo 301, powerful lifting sessions hosted by Fort CrossFit, and upbeat Afrobeat dance classes that had everyone moving to the rhythm. Attendees also enjoyed slower-paced, mindful movement sessions such as Qigong Flow and Latin American aerobics -ideal for those easing into fitness or simply enjoying a graceful workout.

A key part of the programme was a showcase from Silverfit, the charity supporting older adults in staying active. Founded by the legendary “IronGran” Eddie Brocklesby, Silverfit led a Nordic walking session through Elephant Park, while yoga instructor Sofia Qureshi guided a relaxing stretching session – showing that fitness truly has no age limit.

Castle Square itself reflected the event’s cultural heart, with picnic tables, decorative tents, and even a writing workshop encouraging attendees to engage both body and mind. Post-workout, the square’s much-loved food vendors served up global flavours – from Caribbean classics at Kaieteur Kitchen Original and Original Caribbean Spice, to Korean bites from Cheemc and Chinese street food at Murger Han.
