DIPLOMÁTICO RUM AT THE PALM TERRACE REVIEW
Multi award-winning Diplomático rum, from the Venezuelan Andes, has brought the spirit of ‘Don Juancho’ to London this summer. Situated at The Bloomsbury Club Bar, The Diplomático Palm Terrace will be taking guests on a voyage of discovery to the Americas in the 1930’s.
I ventured there on the 1st of July 2018 to check out the Bloomsbury Club Bar’s outdoor terrace bar which has been transformed into a palm-decked sanctuary. It’s simply gorgeous with it’s soft cushions, tropical foliage and Diplomático lined walls. I was there to try the bespoke selection of sophisticated tropical inspired Diplomático cocktails, expertly created by Bloomsbury Club Bar, bar manager Brian Calleja. So really… what better way to experience these in a tropical oasis.
It would be amiss if I didn’t start with a The Diplomático expressions. The three expressions include:
Planas – a clear, lightly aged, richly flavoured rum that’s charcoal -filtered with notes of
tropical fruits, coffee and coconut.
Mantuano – a superbly balanced rum that’s aged up to eight years in ex -Bourbon and Malt Whisky oak casks.
Reserva Exclusiva – a super-premium,elegant and complex 12 year old sipping rum that has won multiple awards globally for its unique body and outstanding balance.
My favourites was definitely the Mantuana, it was extremely smooth and went down a treat.
In terms of cocktails, while enjoying our delicious complimentary Iced Daiquiri (which every guest gets to enjoy’, we perused the menu.There is an impressive range of cocktails which suit everyone’s taste. From fruity rum cocktails to more hardy cocktails with a bit of a kick to them.
Think REVERSAL OF FORTUNE, a take on the Old Fashioned with Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva, dark chocolate liqueur and orange bitters, the MANGO BOTUCAL with Diplomático Mantuano, mango syrup, Amber Picon and Fernet Branca or the RON Y COLA with Diplomático Planas, cola and vanilla syrup topped with Prosecco. This last one was not to my liking, but it was a favourite of my guest. She loved it. The other’s though were divine and I could have quite easily ordered a couple more while we ate some of the bar food on offer. The food was created by created by executive chef Byron Moussouris. Definitely get the fries, cuban sandwhich and the empanadas! Absolutely delicious.

The Palm Terrace is open for eve ning cocktails during the week and will host Saturday
brunch with DJ sessions with acclaimed vinyl DJ Sam Frankl playing his personal mix of
Latin, Bossa and High Life.The Diplomático Palm Terrace is open at the Bloomsbury Club Bar until the 31st of August 2018. So get on down and enjoy summer with a bit of Latin flavour, you’d be a fool to miss out on.
