Disco Yoga
Most nights, if I’m not at home, you’ll find me in at a bar, restaurant or a theatre show. So it was unusual to find myself making my way down to Brixton Beach Boulevard for a session of Disco Yoga. My idea of exercise consists primarily of walking around London seeing the sites and does not involve twisting myself up into a pretzel. Putting these negative feelings about exercise at the back of mind, Disco Yoga sounded fun, so I thought why not give it a try.
Now what is Disco Yoga, you may ask? It’s basically just Yoga with Disco tunes playing in the background rather than soothing music as you contort your body in the Down Ward Dog and other Yoga poses. Daisy, our instructor was lovely and the small size of the class easily put a lot of my initial fears aside. The venue of Brixton Beach Boulevard was fabulous as well. London, isn’t a place you’d usually be able to practice yoga on a beach so the venue is a gorgeous little escape.
Despite being extremely sore the next day and discovering I had muscles I didn’t know I had, Disco Yoga was very fun. The hour class was perfectly paced and Daisy, (who has been practicing Yoga for six years and teaching for two years) was happy to help those (including myself) who were struggling with some of the more complicated poses. Whether you’re a beginner or an extremely flexi Yoga guru, head down to Brixton Beach Boulevard for Yoga with a difference. Disco Yoga will be on every Tuesday at 8:00pm until the end of August or for those who want something a bit more high intensity, Disco Aerobics is available Saturday mornings.
