Earthly Matters – Zero Waste refill shop opens in London’s Carnaby

Lockdown has impacted our habits in a positive way, got us thinking more about our mental and physical health, about what we eat, and has got us more creative in the kitchen with baking and cooking. But while you stock up for your next zoom cooking class, have you given food for thought about the food miles and all the excess plastic packaging in your shopping trolley?

Research has shown that our changing habits over the last year have resulted to an increase in excessive packaging and single use plastic as we head to more online shopping and takeaways. Green deal is a big deal. We can do our bit by making small but meaningful changes, reducing food waste, eating more seasonal produce and making changes to our habits and lifestyles to help reduce our carbon footprint.

Earthly Matters, a new independent zero waste refill shop has recently opened at 5 Newburgh Street in the heart of London’s vibrant and iconic Carnaby. Carnaby has always been a place of innovation and enterprise and Earthly Matters founded by Audrey Kelly, is the first of its kind in the neighbourhood.

Hiding behind its bright pink frontage, this one-stop shop is for all your essentials, providing an extensive range of organic, allergen-free and environmentally friendly products including fresh and dried groceries, health supplements and toiletries. Foods such as nuts, grains and breakfast cereals are available to purchase alongside immune boosting vitamins, vegan proteins, and nutritional powders.

With a commitment to zero waste, shoppers are encouraged to bring empty containers to fill and refill as a means of cutting down on single use plastics. There is also an option to purchase reusable glass jars or use paper bags to fill up with supplies.

If this year has taught us anything, it is not to take anything for granted. Our earth matters, lets not ‘throw our future away’. Refill so it doesn’t end up in the land fill.
