Fatt Pundit Review

If you want somewhere to eat for a special occasion (or just fancy some really good food!) Fatt Pundit should go right to the top of your list.

Fatt Pundit is a small restaurant on Berwick St in Soho, with cuisine originating from Kalkata but with a Cantonese twist.

We started with a cocktail on arrival and with everything on the menu sounding so tempting, the waiter helped us to make our decision on what to order.

We were told that all meals in Tangra start with steamed dumplings called Momos, so we tried the Beef Momo; which was stuffed with beef, leek, red chilli and coriander, and was served with two spiced chutneys.

The food was all served as and when it was ready, rather than as starters and mains, but the waiter’s recommendations made sure all of dishes really blended well together and complemented one another.

The meat and fish options on the menu all sounded so tempting, but we ended up ordering the Malabar Monkfish Curry, Kolkata Chilli Duck, Lollipop Chicken and Lamb Chops with a Black Bean Dust. The flavours and cookery on all of them were perfect, and I was really pleased we went with the waiter’s recommendations, as he chose some of the stand out dishes.

Alongside our meat and fish dishes, we had the Burnt Ginger Rice, Sweet Potato Fries (which were served with a Szechuan mayo dip) and the Sticky Sesame Vegetables – crispy veg fritters with a sticky ginger glaze and topped with sesame seeds.

My favourite dish of the night had to be the Cracking Spinach. I always love a vegetable side dish, but this was smothered in sweet yoghurt, date and plum sauce and pomegranate seeds, and I honestly could’ve ordered another portion just for myself, it was that good!

Completely full from the savoury dishes, I wasn’t sure I could fit in dessert, but the Sizzling Brownie smelled so good that we just had to give it a go and wow, it didn’t disappoint. It was served with vanilla ice cream and topped with a hot chocolate sauce when it was on the table, which gave a nice bit of theatre to end the meal.

I left the restaurant so full (and yes, the food coma was real) but also with my mouth tingling from all the flavours. I can safely say it’s the best meal I’ve had in a while, and I would highly recommend it – you’re in for a real treat!
