Feast London Review

Tobacco Dock was constructed in the early 19th Century and was used, as you might imagine, to house tobacco from all over the British Empire. Thankfully, it is no longer used for this purpose and instead plays host to a massive indoor and outdoor space and various nice bars. It seems like the sort of place well worth visiting for a drink of a Friday evening if you fancied going somewhere a bit different and a bit out of the ordinary.

Currently, it is full to the bilges with some of the best food in London. There are stalls that serve everything from exotic marshmallows, to raw Caribbean salads via paella, macaroni cheese and squid ink buns served with salted cod burgers.

Now, that’s got my tongue salivating and if it hasn’t had the same effect on you, then I don’t know what you’re playing at. If you need more reason to go, there are firebreathers, Meantime brewery have a pop-up bar there serving their delicious ales and the Union Street Bar have a fantastic cocktail bar, staffed by some seriously exuberant bar staff, who also happen to make amazing mint juleps in Dixie cups.

On to the food I tried. First up was a raw Caribbean salad. Not something that sprang to mind as the obvious first choice, but the colours on display and fact that it all looked absolutely amazing and fresh beyond belief meant it made sense. That and it was a gesture to being healthy, knowing full well that the rest of the food I was going to eat wouldn’t be. Composed of wild rice, quinoa, beetroot and a whole host of other delicious salad, topped off with some of the best hummus I’ve ever eaten (speaking as someone who eats more hummus than the average human being) I can highly recommend a visit to the Rainforest Creations stall.

Next up was the aforementioned squid ink bun and salted cod ‘burger’. This was beautiful. It’s really the only way I can describe it. The bun was light and delicious and black. Yes, black from the squid ink. The cod was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavoursome and all topped off with a delicious dressing and chopped lettuce. The Notting Hill Kitchen did themselves proud and I will be sure to visit them.

Annie Mae’s range of macaroni cheese styles would take some beating and with the great names to boot, they’re on to a winner – the Kanye Western was a favourite. Serving macaroni cheese with a wide variety of servings, including bbq sauce and diced hotdogs or their special served with nachos, guacamole, salsa and a mini bottle of Tabasco sauce it was a great, but not light, way to round out the main course tasting.

Choosing to end on a sweet not Julie’s Brownies did us proud with one of the moistest brownies I’ve eaten, topped with a whipped mint cream that left a satisfied, if potentially diabetes-inducing feeling. I defy you to find a better brownie in consistency and imagination. Flavours galore and very reasonably priced too.

All in all, FEAST was a great way to spend a sunny afternoon and if you are any kind of foodie, I can’t recommend you hop on the DLR and pay them a visit soon enough.

Hipefully the Feast guys will be back soon, keep checking their website and Twitter for updates, or just pop onto their Instagram where some of the awesome pics from the feast are posted!
