Graduate by Hilton Cambridge Review
As soon as the sun comes out, I am desperate to get out the house and do something fun, so a weekend escape to Cambridge perfectly hit the spot. We stayed at Graduate by Hilton, which is centrally located on the River Cam, and honors the heritage of the nearby University of Cambridge.
As you walk into the lobby, you’re immediately surrounded by nods to the university town, including punting boats on the walls and a model of DNA hanging from the ceiling. The ground floor then opens up into a glamorous bar area, and a gorgeous terrace where we sat for food and drinks in the sunshine. The fish and chips was delicious, and the cocktails from The Garden Bar were perfectly sweet and refreshing for a sunny day.
After a long afternoon on the terrace in the sun, we took a walk into the city centre and discovered some great book shops. For dinner, we visited Tradizioni; a cute Italian restaurant with tasty pizza and pasta, then head back to the hotel for a nightcap in the bar.
On Sunday morning, we woke up early and went to the gym and the pool area. Soaking in the jacuzzi with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the river (and the cows!) was an ideal way to start the day! And then came breakfast – the hotel serves a freshly cooked breakfast every morning, with a great selection of hot food, fresh salads and cheeses, fruit and pastries.
We had another walk around the city centre before heading back to the hotel, as Scudamore’s punting company start their tours right next to the property. We had a great tour through the colleges where they taught us about the history of the buildings, the colleges themselves and some of the alumni. The perfect end to the weekend had to be an ice cream on the banks of the River Cam before heading back to London.
For anyone looking for a hotel in Cambridge, I couldn’t recommend Graduate by Hilton enough. The facilities were great, including on-site parking, a pool and jacuzzi with a great view, tasty and fresh breakfast and The Garden Bar serving amazing food and drinks.
