Hankies’ Chai Time Afternoon Tea Review

Alex from ONIN.London recently visited Hankies and provided a glowing review (http://onin.london/hankies-review/). So we were grateful to be invited back to Hankies to taste test their new Afternoon Tea. Stlarting from September Hankies will now offer an Indian spin on Afternoon Tea. You have to pre-book for the afternoon tea, but it’s totally worth it. Especially as for the time being it’s one of the cheapest Afternoon Teas on the markert. Created by Hankies’ Founder and Chef Proprietor, Ani Arora, Hankies Chai Time offers both savoury and sweet South Asian bites, priced at only £14.00 per person.

The food is plentiful with Bombay Sandwiches, Paneer Hankies Roll, Chicken Vadas and Bhindi Bhels. We even got a special treat of the Halloumi and Kale Samosas. These were definitely my favourites along with the Paneer Hankies Rolls. Perfectly spiced and full of flavour, I was in a bit of a food coma by the time we finished eating.

The sweet section consisted of Lemon Tea Cake and Green Tea with Spice Tea Cake, Laddu Strudels, Gulab Jamun Crème Brûle, Choco Kheer and Bakharkhani Scones. The strudel and the Indian influenced Crème Brûle were divine. Sweet and not so heavily influenced with Cinnamon and/or Sultanas. The option to have plain scones would have been nice as the Cumin Jam and Clotted Cream were delicious and unfortunately I don’t eat Fruit Scones.

Our Afternoon Tea was washed down by Kulhar Ki Chai (Ginger and Cardamon Tea served with the Indian Sugar Box), other International Teas and Hankies’ Signature Cocktails, the Nimbu Pani, Spicy Lychee and the Purani Delhi. While the tea is available as part of the £14.00, the cocktails or Prosecco can be bought for between £4.00 to £6.00. All pretty reasonable for a restaurant in the heart of Soho.p

It was a great day spending the evening with other influencers and meeting the manager, Ishita Arora of Hankies. I enjoyed myself immensely and cannot wait to go back. So make sure you head down to Hankies’ to try this fabulous Afternoon Tea, you won’t be disappointed. If Afternoon Teas aren’t your thing and they definitely should be, there’s the A’la Carte or Pre-Theatre menu which looks fabulous.
