HappyDown™ Review - ON IN LONDON

Three years ago the founders of HappyDown™ had an idea for a ready to drink crafted cocktail that could go global. That idea started to become a reality in summer 2017 when the low ABV drink launched in Morrisons stores nationwide. After only two months in Morrisons, distribution has already doubled with the announcement that Tesco began stocking HappyDown™ throughout England.

We were sent the three flavours of HappyDown™ (Lychee & Guava infused with Chilli, Lemon & Cucumber infused with Mint and Raspberry & Pomegranate infused with Basil). It wasn’t hard to see why they received two global awards: a Silver each at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2018 and at Global Spirits Masters in 2017.

HappyDown™ fills the gap in the market of beverages that contain natural ingredients, are low ABV and are designed toward adult oriented flavour combinations.

OnIn.London writer Natalie Lewis said of the Lemon, Cucumber and Mint flavour ‘This was a lovely blend of refreshing yummy flavours. The initial tangy and refreshing lemon is quickly followed up by a delightful twist of both mint and a subtle hue of cucumber – reminiscent of the classic mojito cocktail. With 4% of alcohol it is alcholic enough to feel like you can have a drink without the hangover. (And while we know it’s not been designed for this) The real beauty of this drink though, is that as delicious as it is on its own; if you fancy something that packs more of a punch simply top it up with your favourite rum, vodka or gin. Bobs your uncle – now you have a tasty boozy cocktail with the added sensory dimension of fizz! Serve this drink ice cold and you won’t be disappointed’!

I myself throughly enjoyed the Lychee & Guava infused with Chilli and the Raspberry & Pomegranate infused with Basil cans. Both were sweet, but not overly so and were extremely drinkable. As each 330ml can is only 4% ABV, it is the perfect pre-mix can that are easily transportable and ready to drink. I’ll certainly purchasing these for when the weather decides to be nice again. I can’t wait to see what other flavours of HappyDown™ are created in the future.
